Blaming the Messenger (Kevin Sites Apologist Alert)
North County Times ^ | 11/20/04 | DARRIN MORTENSON

Posted on 11/21/2004 12:12:20 PM PST by jimbo123

When I first read Monday that embedded reporter Kevin Sites had filmed a Marine killing an unarmed Iraqi man on the floor of a Fallujah mosque, I turned to photographer Hayne Palmour and said: "Kevin's the loneliest man in the world right now."

Palmour, a veteran staff photographer for the North County Times, and I had worked with Sites near Fallujah during the Marines' previous push on that city in April.

We, too, were embedded, and embedded deep like Sites was these last weeks ---- with a Marine infantry company in the heat of house-to-house fighting.

We could empathize with Sites because we knew him as a hardworking and diligent young journalist dedicated to the truth, and because we, too, had incurred the wrath of both the military and certain sectors of the public for reporting it.

"According to reports from the field, Sites was last seen at the base camp near Fallujah eating alone in the chow hall, shunned by the Marines around him."

Is Sites still alive?

I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I don't think Sites was to blame. The Stalinist networks are to blame for taking his footage out of context. I've looked at his site, and there's really nothing that's remotely anti-American about his work.

Let's put the blame where it belongs - right in the lap of the pig liberal media. Sites was someone who happened to be useful to them for propaganda purposes.

"Kevin's the loneliest man in the world right now."

Kevin's not lonely. He's got lots of company in the Democrat party, and lots of public support in the MSM.

He is, however, completely disgusting.

Sites is being muzzled because he knew the Iraqis in the mosque had been previously wounded and disarmed, but didn't tell the Marines who went in the second time. He is currently under investigation for concealing information from the second Marine unit.

After entering Fallujah with a Marine platoon in late March, we witnessed a Marine sniper kill an unarmed Iraqi man who was standing on his roof talking on a cell phone.

This reporter is also a worthless brainless nut. What does the guy think the Iraqi was doing on the cell phone? I tell you what, he was adjusting indirect arty for the terrs. Iraqis used this system from day one of the WAR!

I hope that some of these reporters get what they deserve - soon.

If Sites was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, his comment "unarmed, wounded Iraqis" was clearly his foot in the mouth blunder.

"Why I thought it was important enough to report was because of how the shooting ---- whether the man was a legitimate military target or just an unfortunate casualty of war ---- had turned the entire neighborhood against the Marines."

So he figured he'd report it and turn the entire Muslim world against the Marines. Great logic these 'reporters' have. Why don't these scumbag reporters just report these incidents to the Marines' superiors and leave it with that? What do they gain by 'reporting' it to the entire world? Of course these questions are rhetorical; what they gain are more points for the anti-war left.

Sites concealed critical information on the condition of the Iraqis in the mosque. He was at the mosque during the previous raid on Friday and didn't inform the Marines who stormed it again on Saturday. It was a setup and he's now under investigation for concealing information from the Marines.

I wasn't aware of this information.

Embedded saboteur. Doubt if he complained to his boss for not running the entire film. Maybe they should send him to the Ivory Coast to photograph the UN/French forces cutting down all those un-armed civilians. (Assuming that the footage I saw linked from another thread was the real stuff and not another out-of-context splice job.)

"He is currently under investigation for concealing information from the second Marine unit."

And rightly so, I might add. I'm afraid the Marine can't edit his shot like Sites can. Because Sites withheld that info, the Marine will forever question his own actions, but I hope not. I really hope not. I hope the support the Marine gets from home helps him through his tough times....

The liberal media has blacked out the fact that Sites was at both raids on the mosque. He used a still camera for his Friday raid photos, but for some strange reason, he decided to use a video camera for his coverage of the Saturday raid. That's why NBC has muzzled Sites. He is under investigation for concealing information that led to the deaths of those Iraqis.

I don't mean to sound like a Sites apologist here, so forgive me for asking...where did you get that info? Can you provide a link? And if it is true, I guess we have yet more evidence of the MSM stifiling or slanting views that don't agree with their ideology.

Bullsh@t! As well documented in his own website, sites is coming from the left, not the truth. Further evidence from the Megalomaniacal Senile Media coverage of events this past year clearly proves it not the truth but rather how to present the story to the benefit of the media itself. Once again the media becomes the story, instead of presenting the unbiased truth.
Sites knew there were wounded in the mosque from the previous days battle, and failed to inform this squad. He was looking for conflict and failed to protect the men in this squad, who if called upon, would have laid down their life to protect his. The truth was not reported by this embed, it was set up and terminated by him.

Sites told the Marine after he taped the shooting that the Iraqi who was shot had been wounded and treated on the previous day. And the Marine responded to Sites, "I didn't know, sir. I didn't know."

Why did Sites wait until after the shooting to tell the Marines about what he knew about the Iraqis in the mosque?

"Let's put the blame where it belongs - right in the lap of the pig liberal media"

Isn't that who Sites works for? Doesn't he know their agenda? Didn't he realize this video clip would become a huge weapon for the anti-war crowd? IF the incident truly troubled him his job was to report it to the Marine's superior and let the Marines deal with the Marine. He fully understood that by releasing this video clip to the world that it would be used AGAINST the Marines by certain of the radical media.

Sites is employed by the rats, he knows how they think and how they operate, so to suggest that he's somehow "shocked" that his bosses are using his video to trash that Marine, and for general anti-war purposes, is just plain ludicrous.

"...where did you get that info?"

It was an admission of Sites' own on the unedited release last Monday.
