Their military buildup is their way of demonstrating their status to the Asian community.

Bull. Is that why they have secured both ends of the Panama Canal system? Is that why they have sent troops into Haiti? They have been training hard for armed conflict with the west for over a decade. Hell, Clinton even furthered their cause in exchange for some easy money in the form of a campaign contribution to the tune of sixteen million dollars. For them, money well spent. They got missile guidance technology that enhanced their capability to strike our nation. Only the west coast if fired from their home soil. But where will a missile of the same range strike if fired from Haiti? What would that cost them? Well, Haiti is the poorest nation in the Caribbean Basin, so I'm guessing it won't take a whole lot to make them feel better.

They will undermine the US both politically and economically at every turn, while simultaneously attempting to isolate tha US fromt the rest of the world by forming alliances, trade agreements, and National Liberation movements (read: Communist revolutionary movements...especially in third world countries). In short, the goal is to isolate and wear us down. The nuke/military build-up is to make sure the US sticks to half-hearted responses re: Korea and Vietnam.

Um...

OK.

If anybody was stupid enough to use the bomb when someone else had it (Truman used it but nobody else had it at the time), we would know.

Actually, we wouldn't. 'Cause we'd be dead.

The Evil Empire never used the bomb. Nor did the US. Or China, France, India, Israel, Pakistan, or the UK.

Get a grip.

The Chinese govt. is many things, but stupid is not among them.

There will be no war between the US and China.

Yes you are correct, it is too late. Nothing is made here any longer. These days I look for made in UK, made in Japan, made in Tiawan or made in India, etc. I used to look for made in France/Germany but screw them too.

China is building up its military so it can acquire the means to go to war if that becomes necessary. Does that mean they are going to invade Taiwan? Not necessarily, but to delude oneself into thinking that their buildup is merely for "demonstrating their status to the Asian community" is foolish to say the least.

Better to support a #$%!-up free country than an insane Commie police state, IMHO.

"Better to support a #$%!-up free country than an insane Commie police state, IMHO."

Amen to that. Indeed, perhaps we could even repair some of the damage to our alliances in Europe if we could wake them up to the danger that the Eurasian Alliance poses to all of us. Right now the EU is going along with this alliance, but it is only a matter of time before both Russia and Red China turn on them.

For one thing, Ole Johnny Boy Kerry would get to see for real how Ghengis Khan and his troops works close up and personal.

The Chinese would NOT want to go the war route, as it would surly go nuclear, and also they have millions of relatives residing here in USA. We have all heard the expression THE BUSINESS OF AMERICA IS BUSINESS, well it appears the Chinese are going that route also. And,without the USA, who would they sell all of their goods to?huh.People gotta think everything through first. Then they won't come up with such nonsense!

"And,without the USA, who would they sell all of their goods to?"

Your first mistake is to assume that Communists put business relationships/trade above the REVOLUTION. It is quite the other way around, as the history of Communism has shown over and over.

Agreed, it amazes me how some people here have no concept of nuclear deterrence. We should watch China's strategic moves, and counter them (we are) but they are incrementalists and always looking to improve their negotiating position. They are negotiators looking to improve their relative positions. That's China historically and nothing's changed people! No matter how much you may need a new Red Scare.

Instead, China had to develop “asymmetrical” warfare to defeat the U.S. in any conflict.

As I've said before, anything that hurts us helps them.

Maximizing IT and other advanced technologies – including nanotechnologies, space technologies, electromagnetic weapons, etc.

Here it comes: China is really on the move. We'd better accept our need to "meet and exceed" their competition, or suffer the consequences. We'd also better realize that most favored nation status for the ChiComs is a hazard.

"The Chinese would NOT want to go the war route"

I said the Red Chinese want to go the "National Liberation" route as per my post #65. They are building their military to keep us at bay while they build alliances and sponsor Communist revolution around the globe. Besides, why would they want to go to war right now, when they are winning victory after victory without even having to fight (Sun Tzu comes to mind here)?
