Hours after President Bush dove into a fracas to rescue his lead Secret Service agent from a confrontation with Chilean security officials, word surfaced of another security dispute. This time, an elaborate state dinner Sunday night was the casualty.
The dinner planned for Bush and 200 others by Chilean President Ricardo Lagos was reportedly scrapped after Chile was unwilling to accept security measures sought by the U.S. Secret Service, including a demand that all guests pass through metal detectors.
Leading Chilean newspaper El Mercurio reported that the disagreement led Bush and Lagos to instead hold a small "social dinner" with a handful of aides from each side.
On Saturday night, Chilean security barred Bush's bodyguards from accompanying the president into a dinner for Asia-Pacific leaders. As a pushing and shoving match ensued, Bush strode over to the melee, reached into the group and pulled mustachioed agent Nick Trotta out by the lapel and into the dinner.
Trotta has been taking good-natured ribbing for having to be rescued by the man he's charged with protecting.

I couldn't agree more, Lou.
Exactly.
I certainly hope the USSS has taken this seriously. This should have never happened, It really gets me tight to see this cheap crap. It's like they are testing the water's as how far things an be pushed. Don't like it, Just Don't like it!

Wow...talk about a story to tell everyone back home...
...Now where have I heard that before?
Shouldn't he have gone to the UN for global approval before rescuing his SS agent?
There's something that should be stated clearly on one of these threads.
When the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas (FTAA) is completely implemented, these yahoo nations in Central and South America will be given the right to help determine our nation's policies.
The FTAA is the second step toward something the equivelant of the E.U., only it will be the A.U.
People better start waking up and speaking out in objection to this nonsense. Our nation's interests are best determined by the citizens of the United States, not some trade or governance tribunal filled 90% by people who do not answer to us in any manor.

Ok - I'll put my tin foil hat on. But attempts to interfere with security arrangements for the President worry me and make me deeply suspicious.
1) Chile has been drifting left.
2) They had an estimated 40,000 protestors in the street over the last few days.
3) These street protestors focused on Bush in their shouts and signs.
4) How could anyone in the Chilean government not be worried over security at a dinner or social mixer?
5) If the Chileans wouldn't allow a metal detector to be put in place, they must not be concerned over security.
Screw 'em.
Hoppy
Response: The Third Worlders smell a kill. I had one little hispanic lawyerette tell me "We are taking over."
Comment: Love, tolerance, the big tent, room at the table, discussion, debate, expression of different points of view, equality, equal opportunity are all symptoms of our decrepitude, such ideas are not manifestations of life and growth.
You are walking on the fighting side of a Texan, when you pick on his body guard-fools!!!! A Texans bodyguard is for your protection. What part of "Don't mess with Texas", do you idiots not understand??????
It does have an odd smell, don't it?
You're not the only one with the tin foil. I had the same suspicion
I believe these piss-ant countries would never push this far without the open support of ex-presidents and elected officials who attack George W. Bush viciously in public, before world organizations. Count Jimmah "Peace With Terrorists" Carter, Bubba Clinton, and Teddy "Can She Float" Kennedy among these back-stabbing, traitorous men.
I have watched Trotta and other Secret Service agents guard and watch over President Bush, especially during the campaign. They not only do a terrific job, the love the guy. Just look at their faces, how focused they are when he is out shaking hands and such. The eyes and facial features tell the whole story.
