There is a global war on terror, where the terrorists want and will attempt to murder world leaders and these morons are more worried about offending people??

Bring Dubya home now! Definitely. Those in charge of the President's safety should already have suggested this. Something about this situation in Chile smells bad. Like the seat of John Kerry's $5000 bicycle.

There is no reason the security of the President should be compromised. For Chile to think a dinner, and not inconveniencing guests, is more important than assuring the safety of the POTUS is inexcusable.
This would be troubling at any time, but it is magnified greatly given the times we are in.

Just saw the end of a report on this on CNN. Since I had seen your thread I knew what was being discussed.
Reporterette Lucia Newman (does she not usually report for CNN from Cuba?) reported:
"There is a feeling here in Chile that the U.S. tends to go overboard on security".
They said the dinner was then cancelled. This is separate from the blocking of the agents, right?

Pass out the tinfoil if you like, but I don't think it's ever a good thing when someone tries to separate the President from his bodyguards. Some thought it might be machismo, and it might have been, but I wondered at the time. Now this--I just really want him home. It might be nothing, but there sure is a lot of odd behavior down in Chile.

Maybe I didn't explain what I meant very well. I understand that Bush is hated, even here. I just always assume that he has the very best security in the world, and that it would take an awful lot to be able to get to him. (She says stupidly, not even thinking about how easy it was to shoot Reagan ... duh.)
Anyhow, I don't really WORRY about him, you know?
But today, I am worried. Two security-related incidents in one night/day is likely not just a coincidence. The fact that the first incident involved physically separating him from his bodyguard (successfully, I might add) is downright frightening. Couple that with the refusal to make guests go through metal detectors and you have the recipe for assassination.
No, my tinfoil hat is not too tight. They need to get him out of there.

Thanks for the article. I was thinking this was separate from yesterday's bizarre blocking of the President's agents (and his manly and capable taking care of THAT situation).
To have this security objection raised after that makes the whole thing seem more odd than it did before.
And here was this smug Lucia Newman on CNN saying (and her expression and tone communicated agreement with this sentiment) that the U.S. tends to go overboard on security.

The presidents of Chile, Brazil, Bolivia, Venezuela, and other South American countries are extreme left wing ideologues aligning themselves with Castro and Chavez.
Jimmy Carter sold out American interest and let the Chinese into Panama. Now the Chinese are trying to push American interest out in South America. This is very disturbing as the Chinese could block the Panama Canal and disrupt the economies of several nations. All this without firing a shot across Americas bow.
China is pushing the envelop as many Asian countries try to do. You can hardly travel anywhere at any resort with out meeting those rude bastards.

If these clowns want to see the can of whoop-ass a President Cheney would unleash, they should keep trying this crap. You think America is overly agressive now? The Atacama Desert would be considered Chile's "fertile region" after Cheney got through with them.

The plain truth follows..
The president of Chile will be a trivial pursuit question in ten years. If someone assasinated him tomorrow, most of the world's response would be..."Who?"
The President of The United States is the most important man on the planet. His security is way too important to sacrifice because a couple of central american bananna republic idiots with delusions of grandeur might be offended.
If they don't like it, then too freekin bad Jose' Get over yourselves.

I read the article about the President covering one of his Secret Service Agent's during an altercation. We got ourselves a real commander here, not some pantywaist, effete liberal!

Heck, last week, that Marine killed what could have been someone's Grandpa because he was wired with explosives.
