Just announced: The USSS demanded that Metal detectors be used for ALL entering dinner tonight, and the Chile President *Didn't want to subject his guests to that* so they scaled back the meeting to those already "swept"

I'm glad W and his SS detail stood firm. To accede to the Chileans on this would cause a loss of respect and weaken the US image and position.Actually it goes much further than this.

,,, with FTAs there's capacity for enormous distortions where emerging economies are pitted against developed ones. Cheap labour is being exploited and that appears to be of no consequence for a champion of human rights like Helen Klark, who proclaims herself to be such a stalwart of UN codes of dignity etc. In theory it should mean the establishment of a large middle class in time.

You rarely get to see the SS mens weapons. Is that an extra cli holster or a glock with a very long clip the 30+ round one. Look how scared the guy to our left looks.

,,, it depends on what result is being planned. For Pakistan's cooperation in fighting the war on terror, it's receiving economic advantages. Whilst not a formal agreement, dressed up as a trade agreement or Treaty, it's doing what it has do do and not for equals. The same can be said for welfare. Although I don't agree with welfare handouts, how are they quantified? I don't think it's too unfair or unrealistic to lump farm subsidies in the same boat as welfare handouts.
