First they try to forcefully deprive the President of his security detail. Then they want to scale down security precautions at the dinner.
I don't trust the Chilean government. I don't trust their motives and I don't trust their "friendship."

'As Bush stepped inside, Chilean agents closed ranks at the door, blocking the president's agents from following. Stopping for more pictures, Mr Bush noticed the commotion and turned back. He reached through the dispute and pulled his agent from the scrum and into the building.'
Not tin-foil at all. If the guards had been in on it, the little incident described here could have been the diversion to allow some third party already inside to rush up with a weapon and attack the president while he was unprotected. This is very serious indeed.

This looks more like Latin type machismo than suspicious intrigue. welll, of course. after all, if it were a set up pursuant to an assassination attempt, they would have said so right up front, right?

However, I repeat... they all would be VERY sorry if a pissed-off President Cheney took the helm. Big Time. Keeping to the cowboy metaphor, they'd be exchanging Gary Cooper for Jack Palance.

To me, it sounds like the Chileans are trying to pin this on the Yanks. Ya know, since we are so hated in the world, what is one more thing.
I also agree that George ought to come home. But having said that, what kind of signal will that send?

When heads of state come here, to we subject them to wearing George Washington wigs? Daniel Boone caps? LOL! No, but perhaps we should.

Hello,
Here in St. Louis, there are Walmarts and K-Marts that require all shoppers to pass through metal detectors. Mind you, these are in pretty rough areas, but I have been to them.
Last night, when Fox first reported the incident with the SS Agent being denied entry with the President, I immediately told my husband that something was very wrong. Now, after what happened today, I am really worried about President Bush. May the Lord protect him, as there are so many that wish him harm.
Glad to be here (will be even more glad when President Bush is home safely!), MOgirl

I've never seen the like of this before. Imagine, going to a foreign country as a guest...and the host country's security guards manhandle your own security detail, then release their spin of the story which the NYTimes trumpets as, "USSS failed to get proper clearance."
Hey, chileños -- tome tu pais and pongalo en donde no brilla el sol!

"Hmmm - which would be more "inconveniencing" to a dinner guest:
1. pass thru' a metal detector
2. have your dinner invitation canceled
Something is not right"
Absolutely. Faced with the choice of passing security, or going home and telling everyone you know you almost had dinner with the President of the United States... hmm. Hard to believe anyone would be against the security procedures considering the alternative. That said, then, just why would the Chileans be handing out such a BS story?
To: cyncooper
There is a feeling here in Chile that the US tends to go overboard on security. So Chile feels we're pricking their piñata? Tough tamales!

good point, doesn't make sense. It seems to me many of these guests have travled far to be there and if you asked them I bet they would be more upset by the cancellation than the metal detector.
really would love to see W get home.

No tin-foil, I agree. These Chilean poncho wearing bastards need to be put in their places for messing with USSS like this.
