Just announced: The USSS demanded that Metal detectors be used for ALL entering dinner tonight, and the Chile President *Didn't want to subject his guests to that* so they scaled back the meeting to those already "swept"
I'm sure others wiil add details
Bring him home now.
Big Time. Keeping to the cowboy metaphor, they'd be exchanging Gary Cooper for Jack Palance.

Yesterday in Chile, read between the lines.

I agree. I feel the same way. The metal detector deal was just a way for the Chileans to save face considering they were forced to give in to working with our SS.
It was like saying, "ok have your way with the agents but forget metal detectors."

It seems rather bizarre to be having these types of problems. These types of issues are dealt with long before the President shows up.
And the assassination attempt doesn't even need to be accomplished with a bang. This is the 21st century. All that has to happen is for the prez to shake hands with somebody who has previously wiped some biological agent on his hand
I agree espcially after that incident with his guard.
Bush shouldn't have let Stephen Kappes, the head of the clandestine side of the CIA go. Many of the big clandestine guys are gone and all we have are Goss' congressional political hacks.
It was implied he leaked but that is a lie.
Now Bush is unprotected.
Just that Murray, Goss' aide, between Bush and a disaster.
what time should i arrive?
I say that our Secret Service must protect the President 24-7.
You don't know who could get to him without protection.
I hope he comes home soon.
I just can't help but think about Anwar Sadat some 25+ years ago. I'm sure he felt safe at the time where he was on the day he was assasinated. Those meaning to carry out such diabolical deeds have no regard for anyone else who would be in harm's way, whether it be the First Lady, leader of Chile and his wife, or anyone else for that matter...so long as they succeed in taking out their intended target. The President and his USSS detail cannot ever be "TOO" safe...not in this day-and-age.
I must confess that what the President did yesterday concerned me greatly because it put him at an unncessary, great risk in that crowd, and his agent(s) would not have been able to protect him because they were being held back...and that one picture of that Chilean guard with the exposed gun just feet away from GWB was enough to really cause me great concern.
Is all of this just a lot of coincidence...or is there something sinister/evil lurking, undetectedly so--in the crowd down there. I'm like most on this forum...."GET HOME GEORGE! and NOW!!!!"
What good does it do that they were already "swept". I'm sure those who have been swept are not going to remain within the confines of the swept area all day. What is to prevent an already "swept" person from leaving and coming back unswept.
Can someone clarify?
Why are you calling these people bastards? These are the people that Bush wants in the FTAA. The FTAA is probably what this meeting is all about.
Exactly. Security Details are figured out ahead of time!!!
There is not a fly by the seat of your pants...OOOPs, we're canceling dinner tonight...because we don't want to insult the guests?! These heads of state are used to this by now!!
Something is wrong.
That was so beautiful! Thank you so much for posting your prayer for our Beloved President. I too have been praying for his protection ever since I first heard this story last night. It is so good to see someone with such strong faith on this site.
Your sister in Christ,
Ilja

"Chile is filled with assholes. "
Go shopping this Friday morning. You'll see they're a lot closer to home than Chile.
I totally agree. Why can't Chilean security prevent total chaos at the door of the place they were in yesterday. Didn't they know they would have to let the Secret Service in?
And, as another Freeper mentioned last night, one of the Chilean guards had his revolver hanging out of his holster while grappling with the SS agent.
Damn Chileans have gotten sort of prissy.
Viva El Caudillo!
