It's the macho....it's their country and we are implying that they can't do the job

Did you look at the photographs? Complete and utter chaos. Chilean security is nothing but two-bit amateurs. Their president should be ashamed to allow such shambles around him. I've seen better order and discipline in two-week recruits.

I don't believe I address a post to you as being an alarmist.

I find it very unnessary to start shouting "fire" when there is none.

The person that I did post my remark to poised his post as a certain.

The "other three" does NOT refer to other 3 SS agents, but to the Chilean Pres, his wife & Laura. Bush was with them, then he left them to go back.

" Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.

Abandoning the other three, Bush walked over to the agents, reached through the dispute and pulled his agent from the scrum."

The key line, as far as the Chilenos are concerned, is this:

pues estaba previamente acordado -en un estricto protocolo- que el punto de acceso sería usado sólo por mandatarios. Los efectivos de seguridad tenían asignada otra vía de ingreso.

It was previously agreed upon--following strict protocol--that the main entrance would only be used by leaders. Security agents were assigned another door to enter the building.

I'm just saying, let's not start calling for bombing sorties over Santiago

Hell no! Their grapes are just now hitting the market and they're great. At least wait a month.

Allways gets my attention, (but it is not very successful at changing our behavior), we Texan men have to be... Men,
actually we may do some stuff just to get the "roll" (but that is only after we are married, we believe that wives enjoy rolling their eyes like that)

If my wife did not enjoy rolling her eyes like that, why would she do it so often? eh?

Thanks for the translation -- but a lot could happen, while the USSS is going around a building to enter via some other entrance. It was obviously a major screw-up and let's hope that's all it was.

Main thing is that it ended well, thank God.

It also said that even after Pres. Bush pulled one agent out and brought him inside, the other SS agents continued to engage in "pushing and shoving" with the Chileno security detail. Someone grabbed someone else by the neck (isn't clear who did what to whom), and then calm magically was restored.

Bottom line, the Sec. Svc. agents should have been allowed to stay very close to Pres. Bush until he was at the main door (so they could take a bullet for him if needed). Then the other members of the detail would pick him up once inside the building.

Some people were suggesting earlier in the thread that our guys weren't allowed in the building. Not true. They weren't allowed to use the front door.

FairOpinion,

There is a link to an excellent video at Post 695. The incident is about 1/3 of the way through.

I thought this was no big deal until I watched the video. It may the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Something was terribly wrong

More Chile CYA:

In the government, the actions of the Carabineros (Chileno security) were evaluated positively. The reason: at least six months ago, the security measures had been planned and agreed upon for this summit. This plan, it seems, was not respected [followed] by the Americans, who tried to enter [the main door] without permission.
