Nobody second-guesses beheaders

The case of the Marine shooting in Fallujah pits a young warrior in the clutch of terror and nanosecond judgment against the Monday-morning quarterbacking of theoretical second-guessers. War truly is hell.

At issue is whether the shooting of a wounded, unarmed Iraqi insurgent by a young Marine during the siege of Fallujah qualifies as a war crime. On the surface, shooting anyone who is unarmed seems to fit the definition of a war crime.

[snip]

From Amnesty International we hear charges of potential war crimes as well as an indictment of military leaders who perhaps didn't teach their young well enough. AI spokesman Alistair Hodgett said he was especially concerned with past comments by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld calling the war on terror suspects "killers" and "the worst of the worst."

Forgive me if I beg to agree with Rumsfeld on this point. We've seen enough by now to recognize that insurgents are killers, often of civilians, and barbaric enough in their executions to qualify among "the worst."

[snip]

He himself had been shot in the face the day before but was back in the fray. By his words we can conclude that his mind was racing. His rapid-fire thoughts most likely went something like this: The man is faking; he intends to shoot me; if I don't shoot him, I will die.

His decision under those circumstances seems reasonable to me. The gravest concern, however, is that the Marine risked his life to voice his rationale, possibly aware he was being filmed and had to justify his actions for the media.

Why do we need the MSM following our brave men and women's every move?
The Marine in question should get a medal of honor for making the right decision.
God bless our troops!

If our government DARES to try to do ANYTHING to this brave young man, there will be a eruption of rage from the Heartland such as they have NEVER seen.

END THE "INVESTIGATION" ON BEHALF OF OUR ENEMIES NOW!

I wonder if the presstitues would be singing a different tune if the wounded terrorist would have jumped up and shot the P.O.S. reporter, before the Marine had a chance to do what was neccesary to insure the scene was safe?

Of course they would be singing a different tune had that scenario happened. Then the troops would be called accessories to murder, right wingers who disliked the MSM because of Foxnews, Rush, and Hannity! They would be accused of refusing to protect this guy or something equally ludicrous.

Insurgents: Disarm 'em, wound 'em, then kill 'em. It's what they want in their jihad.

People like John Kerry and Bill O'Reilly (previously anti-capital punishment types) changed their views when it came to Islamic terrorists. Geneva Convention notwithstanding, why would anyone be concerned about the fate of unlawful enemy combatant animals who would, in any just society, be subject to a firing squad?

This Marine had to make a decision he thought was life threating to himself and his buddies.....Do I care about the terrorist's rights at this point???.No...and I sure as hell know this Marine was not thinking about his "rights" at this point either. Why is this such a big deal??? The Marine saw fit at that moment to terminate the terrorist. What's more important??? Safeguarding the rights of a terrorist or the lives of a few Marines?....Don't even go there!....

I thought for a while that I knew what was going on after I veiwed the unedited tape, but I realize that even with the tape I don't understand the totality of the situation. Leave it up to the military investigators. They are best situated to judge the Marine's actions. The Marines will judge their own.

They sure would be singing a different tune... that the US military couldn't even protect an un-armed reporter just doing his job. Count on it!

Yeah, but the wailing of the press would be worth it considering the benefits of one less POS terrorist propogandist.
