LOS ANGELES A fight between two Jordan High School students Friday led to a blacks-Latinos brawl that police said may have involved up to 1,000 people, including some gang members who came on campus for the fracas.
The scrap, which reportedly began with two girls fighting, possibly over something that happened yesterday, began during the second lunch period, officials said. Nobody was seriously hurt.

I am guessing none.
Close, an earlier post lists 0.1% as white. Of 2600 kids, that works out to 2.6 (2 white and one biracial?).
Parents grew up in the 1950s and 1960s. The riot that took place at my aunt's high school was in 1970, at the height of black power.
Clemenza, my comment was addressed to Gigantor where Gigantor said: "we were in the middle of the civil rights movement" in 1970.
The civil rights movement began long before 1970.
"Black power" was an expression credited to Stokely Carmichael.
In 1964, Stokely Carmichael founded the The Lowndes County Freedom Organization (LCDO) in Alabama, which was later changed to the Black Panther Party.
Stokely Carmichael gave a speech entitled "Black Power" in 1966. Carmichael later coauthored with Charles Hamilton "Black Power" in 1967. Stokely Carmichael was then accused of black racism by some members of the NAACP and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. (SCLC)
Carmichael also adopted the expression "Black is Beautiful."
In 1970 Stokely Carmichael was enjoying his new home in Guinea, West Africa after having renounced his US citizenship.
Another Black Panther, Bobby Seale was on his way to prison in 1968 for four years on a charge of inciting riots. While Seale was in prison he was next charged with murdering a fellow inmate. Seale was eventually acquitted of the murder charge.
After release from prison in 1966, Eldridge Cleaver joined the Black Panther Party. He was arrested on a murder charge in 1968, fled the country to Mexico and ended up in Cuba and later Algeria.
Eldridge Cleaver and Huey Newton had some disagreements while Cleaver was abroad which resulted in Newton expelling Cleaver from the Black Panther Party. Cleaver did not return to the USA until 1975.
Malcolm X was assassinated in 1965 by members of the Black Muslims. Malcolm X's autobiography was published in 1965.
H. Rap Brown was active in the civil rights movement during his college years at Southern University, 1960-1964.
Brown joined the Black Panther party in 1968. Brown was arrested and imprisoned many times from 1967-1970. Eventually H. Rap Brown was sent away to prison in 1970 after being shot during an armed robbery. H. Rap Brown was paroled in 1976.
Here where I live, the latino gangs take the cake. Most fighting is amongst themselves though. Hempstead is now more hispanic than black and white and everything else. Roosevelt has a lot of black-hispanic gang fighting according to my sister who teaches there. She was banned from the school for telling some of the hispanic students to tell their parents about 'No child left behind' *LOL*
A lot of hispanics are white. It's a language group, and a pretty stupid classificiation for people.
How is it that some schools where there are a lot of different students never have this kind of thing happen? Not that I can really talk though. I went to catholic school.
We get a race riot in the high schools every couple years in this part of Texas. In one school which was shut down for 3 days --- the kids from Mexico didn't think the black kids from the military families belonged at their school.
Indeed. Agreed.
The fact remains that Hispanic's are classified as victims but not as aggessors. Any hate crime by a Hispanic is blamed on Whites---and tnat means hate crime data is impeached.
You're right. During the Clinton administration, anyone specifying more than one race on a government adminstrative form, had the 'underrepresented' one counted as a whole. Weird shell game they play.
I wonder why it's not reported that white kids were involved --- it takes two to tango --- these racial gangs will do things well in advance to provoke each other. The thing is --- the Mexican gangs do provoke the white kids but they tend to just ignore the insults. Here white kids get called "anglo" and "gringo" all the time as insults -- but you call the black kids the n word and you're going to provoke a reaction.
I went to a segregated school my entire 12 years...never had any significant fights or racial problems.
When you're a Jet, You're a Jet all the way From your first cigarette To your last dyin' day. ....
Gee, Officer Krupke
There wasn't a fight or racial argument in my school and my school was pretty intergrated. One thing doesn't have to do wiith the other.
It is a stupid classification --- not based on much of anything. Not even a language group because some long time non-immigrant Americans who speak only English but have some Spanish ancestry are called "hispanic", so is a Mayan Indian from Guatemala or Chiapas who speaks only a Mayan dialect and little or no Spanish is called a "hispanic". Those who speak a weird street Spanish-English mix who cannot be understood by English nor Spanish speakers are still hispanic. It's not a race, it's not a really even a language group.
I think it was created on one hand to separate many hispanics from white people and also to create a new victim class to keep jobs for the future.
The other thing you could bet your life on --- the kids in the so-called "hispanic" gangs are not from those Spanish or Spanish-Indian families that have lived in the USA for many generations. The people of the SW USA have never been into violent race gangs --- this is all about the new arrivals from Mexico and Central America.
Oh, we did have 'names' (slurs) for kids from other schools. Folks from the bayou we called 'shrimp-pickers' and from the east bay, they were 'potato-pickers' and so forth. LOL
