German intelligence “knew plans for Kosovo violence”
CNN/Reuters/B92 ^

BERLIN -- Friday – Germany’s intelligence service was aware of Kosovo Albanian plans for the violence which swept Serbia’s southern province in March, according to German media.

Television ZDF claims that intelligence agents had the information several weeks before the outbreak which left 19 people dead, a large number injured and hundreds of houses and church buildings destroyed.

Three weeks before the violence, intelligence services intercepted a conversation in which an Albanian spoke about preparations for an attack on Serbia, said ZDF, quoting intelligence documents.

The same person, according to the report, claimed to be in contact with Al-Qaida and was a paid informer of the German intelligence service BND according to a number of unnamed sources.

A spokesman for the intelligence service refused to comment on the case.

ZDF also claimed that the same informer also warned that there could be a similar outbreak of violence at any moment.

“It only needs a spark, and we’re in a position to deploy 30,000 guerrillas,” said ZDF’s source.

Germany knew Kosovo violence was planned - report

CNN/Reuters

November 19, 2004

A broadcaster said on Thursday that German intelligence knew in advance that ethnic Albanians in Kosovo were planning violence in March that Western officials have said took them by surprise.

The anti-Serb riots, the worst violence in the Serbian province since the 1999 Kosovo war, left 19 people dead and many injured. Hundreds of homes were set ablaze.

German broadcaster ZDF said intelligence services intercepted conversations three weeks before the clashes broke out in which an ethnic Albanian discussed with an accomplice preparations for attacks on minority Serbs.

Citing intelligence service documents and unidentified sources, it said the man was also a paid informant of Germany's foreign intelligence service (BND).

A BND spokeswoman declined comment on the report.

The United Nations and NATO, partners in a peace mission for the past five years since allied bombing drove Serb forces out, said at the time the scale, speed and intensity of the mid-March violence took them by surprise.

Western officials have said the rioting was clearly orchestrated and directed by Albanian extremists in the province, whose majority Albanians demand full independence from Serbia.

Thousands of ethnic Albanians attacked Serb enclaves and churches as well as NATO peacekeepers and U.N. police.

Serbs outside Kosovo responded with attacks on a mosque in the Serbian capital Belgrade and another in the southern town of Nis. Most ethnic Albanians in Kosovo are Muslims, while Serbs are Orthodox Christians.

ZDF said its reporters had spoken to the ethnic Albanian informant, who told them: "Similar trouble could break out again at any time. It just needs a spark. We are in a position ... to put 30,000 guerrilla fighters into action."

Kosovo, a landlocked Serbian province of two million people, has been under U.N. administration since June 1999 after an 11-week NATO bombing campaign to halt Serbian repression of ethnic Albanians.

Nice Catholic name...."Ibrahim"...!!!

I dnon't think "dj_animal_2000" is what the Patriarch had in mind for the Orthodox faithful, either!

Rugova is a converted Catholic. I've heard two stories why, don't know if either is actually correct. One is he married a Catholic girl. The other is that the Sant Egidio Catholic organization working in Kosovo took care of him when he was the shadow president in the 90s and brought him to the Church.

Well, being Jewish I have as well a REAL nice...Jewish name...!!!!

You heard...???...Ibrahim has very little understanding of the authentic values of Christianity in the region where he has been elected as president. Moreover, he does not even mention the existence of the Serbian Orthodox Christian monuments that comprise more than 90 percent of the entire cultural and historical wealth of Kosovo and Metohija. He does not even mention the more than 100 Serbian churches and monasteries destroyed by Albanian extremists after the end of the armed conflict in 1999 (not in the time of war), which, by the way, he has never publicly condemned.

UNESCO delegation (Feb, 2003) visiting the ruins of the 14th century church of the Holy Virgin Odigitria, near Suva reka. Only a 20th century bell tower survived attack of Albanian extremists (even the surrounding trees were cut)

Is this Ibrahims understanding of being a christian...???

hmmmm...Knowing now, the Al-Qaida guy, Samedin Xhesairi, helped the Albanians organizing the terror-attacks in March 2004 against the Serbs and other minorities in Kosovo...As we remember the violence began after reports that 3 ethnic Albanian boys drowned in an icy river trying to escape a mob of angry Serbs....Later we find out, there were no Serbs involved in that incident...

I ASKED MYSELF TODAY...WHO REALLY KILLED THE BOYS...????

give us your comment to the real subject of the thread

Well, the article is mostly B.S. The German govt has already said so. At the height of the actual war, the KLA couldn't field 30,000 men; much less trained and armed guerillas. And they sure can't do it now. And exactly how secret squirrel Samedin "knew" all this is conveniently left out as well as such details as who is in charge, etc. 30,000 people don't just get toegether and organize and arm and train themselves. So he's just a B. S. artist riding the wave for a little while.

Also, nobody knew that riot was going to take place three weeks out. There was a confluence of factors that kicked that off--bad economy & lack of jobs, no progress toward a final status, the Serb kid who was shot a couple days before causing the local Serbs to block the main road from Pristina to Skopje, the three Albanian kids who drowned and the way the Albanian media non-stop broadcast it as a story blaming the Serbs, plus there was an announcement concerning prosecuting some KLA for crimes about then. It was impossible to to foresee or (for the conspiro types, to organize) all that different stuff to happen at the same time.

However, if Haradinaj gets yanked up to the ICTY--especially if he's the Prime Minister, the economy stays bad & final status does not go forward, then Samedin is right that a "spark" could set off more riots or a resistance campaign directed at UNMIK and perhaps even KFOR. The USA is still very much liked and respected, but there's not a lot of love for the Greek & French contingents.

The most critical piece is final status. If it looks like independence, even if everything else is going bad, they'll hold their breath and not do anything for fear of upsetting the apple cart. If it looks like they're going back under Serbia direct rule--there will be trouble. There may be some "substantial autonomy" options that can be made acceptable to most Kosovar Albanians, but there are some who will simply not accept anything less than indepedence.

Personally, I think you can thank Slobo for that--he's the guy who promulgated extremist nationalism and turned Yugoslavia into the Former Yugoslavia, complete with the UNMIK Kosovo protectorate.

Berlin denies Kosovo intelligence report | 16:03 November 19 | SRNA

BERLIN -- Friday – The German Government has denied reports that its intelligence services knew several weeks ahead of violence planned in Kosovo in March this year.

“The information published by German television ZDF that German intelligence services did not inform the army about the security situation in Kosovo is untrue and unfounded,” government spokeswoman Bella Anda told journalists today.

She added that the German intelligence services and the German Army, which has a contingent stationed in Kosovo, had made a joint assessment of the situation in Serbia’s southern province, but declined to give details.

There's only 1800 troops left in Kosovo; mostly National Guard.

1800 could make quite a difference in Mosul or Fallujah or even along the Mexican border.

Now, as for the Serb Army coming in to "restore order", the last time they were in charge, thousands of Albanians & hundreds of Serbs died

The worst of the death happened after we started bombing, and it's a bit misleading to suggest that the Serbian forces were the ones responsible for all of the killing.

And in any event, Milosevic is no longer in charge, in case you haven't been up on current events.

What, do you enjoy the brothels these ragheads stock with eastern European and Slavic girls? What about the heroin that they are one of the main suppliers of for European Continent?

As far as your allegation it is BS. The people that started terrorizing the Christian population have not been there for years. They are new to the area and funded by the Sauds and other ragheads. The rest are called Kosovar al-Banians BECAUSE THEY ARE AL-BANIANS. You no doubt from your screenname are presiding over the ethnic cleansing of Christians that is taking place there. Go back to your dirty work.

There are some errors in your perceiption. As you have pointed out, it was the German parliament allowing the use of chemical agents, and not other allies. Btw, it was Germany having put that restriction regarding WMD on itself - there were even plans to build nukes by the end of the 50´s. Currently, there´s no plan to build up weapons of mass destruction. And finally, Germany is a large arm seller to Israel, both countries are strong partners.

He must be talking about the mass graves of the 200,000 missing al-Banians Ted Koppel and Dan Rather breathlessly told the Amercan Public about. The pictures of these mass graves of tens of thousands Albanians were shown later - not.

hmmm...funny...cause and is stays there “The information published by German television ZDF that German intelligence services did not inform the army about the security situation in Kosovo is untrue and unfounded,” government spokeswoman Bella Anda told journalists today.

I guess, you speak German...

Link

Well, your spokesperson Anda didn't answer the question, if the BND (German intelligence service) had this kind of informations or if they helped organizing the riots...

There's an investigation going on...

Another version:

March riots were planned and organized | 14:18 November 20 | Beta

VIENNA -- Saturday – The March protests that turned into acts of violence against Kosovo Serbs were planned a long time before they occurred, according to Samedin Dzezairi, an Austrian citizen who worked for the BDN, the German Intelligence Agency.

Dzezairi said that prior to the riots he had constantly been warning officials that "the situation in Kosovo could take a turn for the radical, and all that was needed was one spark to ignite the explosion."

According to Dzezairi, who has been linked to working with the American CIA as well, an organization of veterans and former members of the Kosovo Liberation Army were responsible for planning the march riots.

This same organization organized the demonstrations against UNMIK prior to the riots.

Although Dzezairi does not deny that the March riots in Kosovo were meticulously planned out, he firmly denied reports from German newspapers that claim that the KLA is linked to the Al Kaida.

Michael, thanks for your view. Hope the future will prove you right.

I always admired Germany, German culture and German people and still do. Without German rocket scientists, America would miss the timetable to reach to the Moon by the end of 1960's as Kennedy promissed.

In 1989, I thought that unification of Germany was good thing and a must for bulding common European home. I thought that aggrssive Germany is the thing of the past. In 1989 I would confront anyone who would say that wolf changes fur but not old habits.

In 1989, the idea that unified Germany will send the weapons of DDR to fan the flames of civil war in European country would sound bizzare.
The idea that Germany would send Kommando Spezialkräfte to train islamic terrorists to attack European country IN CONTRAVENTION OF ALL INTERNATIONAL TREATIES GERMANY RATIFIED would sound ridiculous. The idea that Germany will participate in combat missions in Europe OUTSIDE Germany and OUTSIDE NATO borders was unthinkable because it was AGAINST GERMAN CONSTITUTION and against NATO Charter.

And last but not least, the idea that German greens will become principal warmongers would be ourtight mad.

What seemed as fiction in 1989 became the truth in the next ten years.

The only conclusion is that the treaties Germany signed are not worth the paper they were written on and that agressive Germany is not the thing of the past.

The fact that Germany trades with Israel today is no guarantee of what will happen tomorrow. Germany also traded with Serbia intensivelly yet did all the above.

What´s against our constitution is not up to you to decide nor up to me - it´s the decision of the independant Constitutional Court, which has acknowledged that taking action even outside the NATO area is alright if an international body (like NATO or UN) decides so.

Bring prove that the KSK trained Islamist, this sounds like a typical lie to me.

Germany is not an agressive country... maybe it´s not full of peaceniks like Canada, but we´re certainly not acting against international law. Oh, and I´m all for getting nukes, and I think we should withdraw from those treaties forbidding it.

dj, as we discussed earlier, Samedin makes some highly improbable claims and, according to your posts, is affiliated with the BND, CIA, KLA, Al Qaeda and Hisbollah (I'd love to see this guy's business card!). Yet, he's running around Europe giving interviews.

Bottom line: My B.S. detection meter is running in the red.
