Five teenagers charged — one with assault —
as victim remains unconscious and critically injured

BY DENISE M. BONILLA AND BILL MASON STAFF WRITERS

November 19, 2004

Suffolk police last night arrested five teenagers who they said were involved in throwing a turkey through the windshield of a car
driven by a Lake Ronkonkoma woman, 44, who was critically injured and has not regained consciousness.

Police did not immediately say why the youths, three boys and two girls, allegedly threw the turkey Saturday
and whether they meant to harm anyone. The one who allegedly threw the turkey, Ryan Cushing, 18, of 122 Willow Ave., Huntington,
was charged with first-degree assault. The others face lesser charges. More arrests are expected, police said.

These bastards should be fried just like a holiday turkey
But you don't need to be Miss Cleo to see a slap on the wrist coming.

5 years tops. But I'll bet that they will especially enjoy their first few weeks in stir.

I wonder where they'll do their time.

This is beyond disgusting. I do not understand why they are not charged with attempted murder.

They'll turn on each other quick.

A highschool classmate of mine through a gallon water jug off an overpass at a passing car. It killed the woman in the passenger seat. He was sentenced to 20 years. Up to then he had never even had a traffic ticket. It was a pretty sad thing for everyone involved.

Since when is an 18-year-old a "youth". He's a big boy now. He can pay a big boy price.

"Police did not immediately say why the youths ... threw the turkey ..."

Is there any reason they could give that would mitigate their actions? Where we would say, "Yeah. OK. Now I understand why they did it."

Why even ask the question? Better yet, why should they answer it?

Actually he "threw" not "through" a water jug.

Not long at all. It's in the article!

It all depends on whether or not the woman dies. If she dies there will not be a slap on the wrist.

Just butter them up and drag them down the Long Island Expressway from exits 50 through 63.

Hey! At least it was spelled correctly.

(Attn mods: For Christmas we'd like a "Grammar" checker button next to the "Spell" button.)

You're right. It's no laughing matter. Why isn't the charge attempted murder?

Really. Why ask why? All you will get is evasive eyes and an "I dunno". Kids are stupid, some stupider than others, and they do stupid things. Some times those stupid things are criminal and they get caught.

No helping it. Sixteen hours of mandatory classroom instruction on not throwing turkeys off of overpasses is not going to solve this problem. It just doesn't make any sense.

What you can do is convict and punish the guilty. Remove them from a position to harm innocent people and provide and example to others. It's not much, but it is something.

Must be from a "good family" to merit the light charge for what he did. The earlier story also pointed out that they used a stolen credit card to buy the turkey. Where are the theft charges, the identity theft charges, etc.
