Thank God for Ft. Benning...they produce the finest infantrymen in the world.

My son hated it many days...and has never regretted going there for a moment:) I, being a civilian, had an Aha moment one day while talking with him. He listed a litany of complaints (typical soldier fare) about the DS..the base, the food, on and on. After listening I was alarmed and asked if he was sorry he'd decided to enlist. He sounded shocked- and said "Hell NO, Ma, I LOVE the Army"...

I live in Columbus and work on Ft. Benning. This celebration began as a counter to the School of the Americas protestors that come out every year. SOA Watch is having their big annual protest this weekend, so supporters of the military in general and Ft. Benning in particular will have the God Bless Ft. Benning thing.

All in all, it's a big pain in the *ss for those of us that were planning on working this weekend. The long haired, pot smoking, peace loving, sock and sandal wearing, tie-dye making hippie freaks are already showing up.

The SOA protest is in a different location, is closer to Fort Benning right?

Yeah, the SOA Watch protest is right outside the front gate. They're not allowed onto Ft. Benning. The last few years, they've trashed the neighborhood right outside the gate (it's a low-income area), and some residents complained. This year, they have temporary fencing put up to channelize the protestors.

Good luck with your celebration. May you meet a deserving soldier so you don't have to remain single!
