Some 40 Marines have just lost their lives cleaning out one of the world's worst terror dens, in Fallujah, yet all the world wants to talk about is the NBC videotape of a Marine shooting a prostrate Iraqi inside a mosque. Have we lost all sense of moral proportion?

The al-Zarqawi TV network, also known as Al-Jazeera, has broadcast the tape to the Arab world, and U.S. media have also played it up. The point seems to be to conjure up images again of Abu Ghraib, further maligning the American purpose in Iraq . Never mind that the pictures don't come close to telling us about the context of the incident, much less what was on the mind of the soldier after days of combat.

Put yourself in that Marine's boots. He and his mates have had to endure some of the toughest infantry duty imaginable, house-to-house urban fighting against an enemy that neither wears a uniform nor obeys any normal rules of war. Here is how that enemy fights, according to an account in the Times of London:

"In the south of Fallujah yesterday, U.S. Marines found the armless, legless body of a blonde woman, her throat slashed and her entrails cut out. Benjamin Finnell, a hospital apprentice with the U.S. Navy Corps, said that she had been dead for a while, but at that location for only a day or two. The woman was wearing a blue dress; her face had been disfigured. It was unclear if the remains were the body of the Irish-born aid worker Margaret Hassan, 59, or of Teresa Borcz, 54, a Pole abducted two weeks ago. Both were married to Iraqis and held Iraqi citizenship; both were kidnapped in Baghdad last month."

>>We suppose he was only doing his job, too. But that doesn't mean the rest of us have to indulge in the moral abdication that would equate deliberate televised beheadings of civilians with a Marine shooting a terrorist, who may or may not have been armed, amid the ferocity of battle.<<

Why do feel like saying blah blah blah!!

Y'know, it would be difficult to get even Fox to show one Muslim beheading. It would be XXXX rated for horror. Maybe one could be put on a Pay For View channel?

This trashing of our proud Marines, our finest fighting force, in the middle of a battle zone is too much. Damn NBC and Kevin Sites.

I feel exactly the same way. How dare the media scum judge anything like this when they have no idea what war is all about? When they can't remotely relate to the danger and the stress these guys are under? How dare they??

I've been in Iraq for eleven months and I can't come close to relating to what the Marines are experiencing in the heat of a battle with terrorists. I sure respect it, though. In spades.

As a matter of fact, US warplanes have been known to "accidently" bomb French and Chinese embassies from time to time. It would certainly be understandable if an American pilot who is unfamiliar with strange Muslim names like Al-Zarqawi and Al-Jazeera got the two confused while looking at a map....

Al- this or Al- that - - whatever.

For the record yesterday the total number was 51 KIA

They are now at peace. They are with GOD.

The terrorists are still wondering why it is soooo hot and where are all the virgins?

The lamestream media wasted a LOT of moral capital in their outrage with the scenes of Abu Ghraib, how could they really differentiate between that and the swift reaction of a Marine in a combat situation?

In the one example, there were clearly GIs exceeding their authority, but no lasting or permanent harm occurred. In the other, an enemy combatant made an unwise move in the presence of a keyed-up Marine, and a summary resolution of the situation was quickly carried out.

A young LT (JG) John Forbes Kerry beached his patrol boat, which had just been fired upon by an enemy combatant on shore, leapt ashore, with weapon in hand, and pursued on foot a fleeing wounded teenager who MAY have been the enemy combatant, and shot him in the back. For this he was awarded a Silver Star.

In which of these incidents was there the 'fog of war'?

I suspect the only reason we are not taking out Al Jaazera is because they are actually an intelligence function of the U.S. They probably are giving us information about the location of terrorists etc.

The only intelligence I see Al-Jazeera providing us is a bad image. They've done more harm than good and want to be that way to show the arab world that americans are just "infedels" to them. They love the violent culture they have and don't want the west to influence "their way"

Get with the program. This is my attempt at disinformation. If we spread my rumor, the terrorists will take out al Jazeera themselves :-)

...What are our priorities??...finding out why a marine saw fit in the heat of battle to waste a terrorist or
find out who got medieval on some poor woman who's legless and armless torso was found in the middle of a road in hell??...I tell you folks...until we stick political correctness where the sun don't shine.....

There's a poll on whether or not the Marine in question should be prosecuted or no at Bill O'Reilly's website.

As aggravating as the media reports are, they are nothing new. The same lib media decried the US military operations in WW2 and other wars.

The same lib ideology permeates the 'progressive caucus' in the House of Representatives. The same lib mentality reeks in much of European politics.

When a fraternity-level bunch of pranks--immature, yes, but not harmful--at AbuGhraib gain more msm coverage than real atrocities of limbs being cut off, beheadings, mass murders, et., that speaks loudly what the msm is all about.

MSM have surpassed the National Inquirer as sleaze. The NI does have breaking, real news occasionally. The NI was one of the first to print about the Clinton-Lewinsky sex scandal.

"Buried in the Sand" is a lot of raw (and rough) footage of Saddam's Iraqi soldiers beating the ever-living $#!# out of prisoners and killing them and stuff like that. Very, very grusome. It's listed on Amazon if you're interested.
