Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia is developing a unique nuclear device "which other nuclear powers do not and will not possess."
To the Russian Interfax and ITAR-Tass news agencies, Putin, in today's meeting with the general staff officials reported that they are continuing to work on the new rocket and added it will be revealed, "in the near future."

I think the Russians are bluffing. They want us to believe that they are working on such powerful and advanced nuclear missile so we will fear them again and so we consider them a superpower.
Remember that in the 1980s Reagan SDI commonly known as Star Wars was mostly a theoretical project but it has profound effect on ending the soviet union. The Russians think that they can use the same strategy here so we can view them again a superpower.

Unless they are developing a system that can take out our entire Triad in one pre-emptive launch, the deterent remains in place.

Sorry Putin, this won't work. If Comrade Kerry was President elect he would have given up Star Wars for your new missile & A-Bomb but not President Bush. I am now certain that Star Wars will work.

I agree. Also, the Star Wars technology IMHO is so far advances that Putin & company are scared stiff. Plus, their window of opportunity for a first strike against the United States is shrinking. Thank God Bush was reelected. Comrade Kerry would have appeased the Russians by given up Star Wars & agree to a nuke freeze. By the way, if the Ruskies have a new nuke, I am sure they have tested it. Doesn't this violate their moratorium against testing nukes? Were the outcries from the left in this country? I mean Kerry was going to unilaterally give up our nuke bunker buster. Now the Russian in secret have developed a new type of Nuke. I guess for the Left in this country its ok for Russia to do this because the US is so evil.

That's why Putin did this. Now with President Bush reelected, he know that Bush will continue with the deployment of a missile defense shield.

The left would like nothing better than to see the rise of the E.U.S.S.R. with the U.S.S.A as a comrade collective.
Uncle Joe Stalin still holds a soft spot in their hearts.

One has to ask why they're telling the world about it.
It was no coincidence that this announcement was made within hours of NASA's successful Scramjet test. Geopolitical posturing.

Lenin wanted to conquer the West by using Fabian Socialism model not direct armed conflict. Fabian socialism is a slow process of socialism infecting the West and then taken it over. IMHO that's what your seeing now going on in the west. Also, Islamic Fascists are a true enemy but they have nation state sponsors, namely Russia & China (Russia and now China have alliances with Iran). So Russia & China are using a double edge sword against the US & her true allies. The next four years should be interesting to say the least.

"...which other nuclear powers do not and will not possess." would seem to indicate they don't plan to sell it... Surely you've been on the playground, where one kid tries to build envy in the other saying, "I've got an ice cream cone and you can't have it!" If the possesser didn't want to "mix it up" or have the other kid to try to come after the cone, he could easily have held his tongue.
OTOH, who said Putin is to be believed or taken at face value?
