But 700 miles could be easily traversed with no stops for refueling in a larger plane. What about a smaller one? I'm not sure what their range is. I believe he was piloting a Cessna.

I would guess that 700 miles is possible in a smaller plane, but then I'm not a pilot. That would be about 7 hours of non-stop flying though, which may exceed a smaller plane's capacity.
