Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has a history of using alternatives to mainstream media to get his message out - but he's now breaking new ground by writing a monthly column for exclusive distribution by ethnic news organizations.
The column is translated into multiple languages by New California Media, an association of more than 700 ethnic news outlets that is holding its sixth annual awards banquet in Sacramento tonight.
In a statement accompanying his debut column, the former international movie star and self-proclaimed marketing whiz said he looked "forward to communicating with California's many vibrant ethnic groups."
The Austrian-born governor sounded familiar themes in the column: his immigrant roots and debt to America for the opportunities afforded him.
"I think it is unfortunate that some new Americans who have endured hardships and sacrifices to start a new life for their families do not exercise one of the most important rights - the right to vote," wrote Schwarzenegger, who himself had a spotty voting record before he ran for governor.

"The governor feels it's critically important to communicate with all Californians," said Terri Carbaugh, a spokeswoman for Schwarzenegger.
"The governor experienced coming to a foreign country and speaking a different language, so he has an understanding of the challenges one confronts."

Contact: Gene Bauston of Farm Sanctuary, 607-227-5017WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Nov. 17 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Schatzi on Main in Santa Monica, CA is the latest of over 400 restaurants to sign a pledge not to serve foie gras. Founded by Arnold Schwarzenegger and managed by Charlie and Maria Temmel, Schatzi on Main, has signed the pledge on the heels of the passage of SB 1520, legislation that outlaws the force-feeding of birds to produce foie gras in California. Farm Sanctuary, the nation's largest farm animal rescue and shelter organization, is hosting an event on November 17th at the House of Blues in West Hollywood to celebrate passage of this historic bill and to honor Gov. Schwarzenegger and Senator John Burton for their roles in getting this bill signed into law.
"Schatzi on Main is to be commended for taking a stand against the cruelty of foie gras and for setting a humane example for others," said Gene Bauston, founder and president of Farm Sanctuary.
Maria Temmel, manager of Schatzi on Main stated, "Our establishment would never serve foie gras. We fully support Governor Schwarzenegger's decision to sign this bill into law."
To produce foie gras, a tube is shoved down the throats of ducks and geese, and massive quantities of food are pumped in, causing the birds' livers to expand up to ten times their normal size. The birds suffer from liver disease and other serious ailments, and many die before reaching slaughter. Concerns about animal welfare have led to bans on foie gras production in over a dozen countries in Europe.
SB 1520 was supported by a broad coalition of animal protection groups and sponsored by the Association of Veterinarians for Animal Rights, Farm Sanctuary, Los Angeles Lawyers for Animals and Viva!USA. More than a dozen celebrities supported the bill, including Martin Sheen, Sir Paul McCartney, Kim Basinger, Alicia Silverstone and Mary Tyler Moore.

LOL... Isn't Pacific News Service an old communist propaganda company?
I think I came across them spewing trash for the VietCong when I was researching Kerry.
How fitting.
It must be some sort of gag (he said reflexively).
The very same, ..
The contributors listed on the PNS site run the gamut, from NPR and PBS to foreign folks I have never heard of, but may now get a chance to read some of their work.
The New California Media will probably be more of the same in a New Majority kind of theme is what I suspect but aimed for different ethnic mindsets, whatever them is. ;-)

Al Jazeera?
Of course this is shere lunacy. Every person living in this nation should know English. If they don't, they should learn it now! If our public officials want to communicate to U.S. citizens, they should do it in the language of this nation. If people are too friggen stupid go learn the ways of this nation, and yest it's language, then why would anyone be stupid enough to care if they are informed or not?
