Group to Build Calif. Governor's Mansion

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's personal attorney announced the formation Tuesday of a nonprofit corporation to raise money for an official residence for the governor and his family. Thomas Hiltachk said the Governor's Residence Foundation would seek private donations "to cover the governor's housing costs without unduly burdening California taxpayers." Terri Carbaugh, a spokeswoman for Schwarzenegger, said no decision had been made on whether to buy an existing residence in the Sacramento area or build a new one. "We're exploring all options," she said. Nor would the home necessarily be ready for Schwarzenegger and his family. But she said they would move in if the residence is available while he's governor. California has not had an official governor's residence since Ronald Reagan moved out of the old governor's mansion near the Capitol in 1967 and into a private residence in an upscale Sacramento neighborhood. The old governor's mansion, now 126 years old, is a state historic site open to visitors. A new state-built mansion in the Sacramento suburb of Carmichael was finished after Reagan left office, but his successor, bachelor Gov. Jerry Brown, refused to move in, opting for an apartment across the street from the Capitol. The state sold the mansion in 1982. Brown's successors, Govs. George Deukmejian, Pete Wilson and Gray Davis, lived in a Carmichael residence that was bought for Deukmejian by a group of his supporters. The state rented that house for $1 a year. Schwarzenegger has a home in Los Angeles and uses a hotel suite across from the Capitol when he is in Sacramento.

Wait 6 months till the tourists stop coming by and slap wheels on the Clintoon Museum and trailer it to Sacramento. Noby in Little Rock will care.

if he isn't recalled by '06, he'll be replaced.
I heard Musclehead was on Larry King last night...
Did anyone bother to watch?
probably not! LMAO

and this clown wants to be POTUS?
talk about illusions of grandeur...

maybe the goose-steppers back home in Austria could use him...

without unduly burdening California taxpayers

Is that a joke? They passed the stem-cell bill - they apparently can just print money out there....

I think perhaps we should start a pilot program in California by putting GPS tracking devices on government cars...the new DMV head could install the first one

We as CALIFORNIANS are sick of this IDIOT. He has done nothing to fix the state budget, other than to borrow money through bonds.

As far as 2006 is concerned, Mr. McClintock will send this KAAAALIFORNIA ARNOLD back to HOLLY-WEED where he actually belongs.

Tom McClintock for Governor 2006.

cause to win CA in '06 will be a HUGE investment!!!

Unfortunately, RINOld may have poisoned the water for another "R" any time in the near future. Just like Pete Wilson did!!!

" ...RINOld may have poisoned the water for another "R" any time in the near future. Just like Pete Wilson did!!! "

Well my friend, then you don't know CALIFORNIA politics.

More than 45% HISPANICS voted for Prop 187, and it approved by more than 2/3rds of the voters. If the same measure was on the ballot this november, it will pass with even bigger margin. We as CALIFORNIANS are sick of illegal aliens. 80% of us want to kick out illegals, and all we need is a person like PETE WILSON to stand for such a measure.

Had Mr. BUSH made immigration a big issue by shutting border and deporting illegals, he would have carried CALIFORNIA as well.

Well "my friend", Pete Wilson practically bankrupted the state while he was in office...just like RINOld is presently doing today.

BTW, I not only KNOW CA politics, I helped write it by being a part of the recall effort of the Dimwit Davis and unfortunately not being as successful in supporting McClintock for governor!

Thats a bit optimistic....adn 45% of the Hispanic vote then is not the same as it is now, as it has grown considerably.
