Speaking of Shepard Smith:

Can anyone tell me what is behind the name of the show "The G BLOCK"???

I've never seen anyone on FOX explain that name!

Can anyone tell me what is behind the name of the show "The G BLOCK"???

After years of getting asked this question, Fox News finally explained it a few months ago.

The news shows are broken up into "blocks". The opening segment is the A Block. Next segment is the B Block. And so on. Internal conversations use the internal lingo when talking about segments. And on time on air Shep screwed up and referred to the upcoming segment by its internal name, The G Block. And the name stuck.

Someone told me that each day is is separated into "blocks", starting with A. Shepard gets the "G" segment.

I believe that there are different segments to any hour long newscast. As the Producer and writer arranges the program and decides what stories are to be put in what slots, things are shifted around because of both the pacing of the stories and the time restrictions. These segments, for the sake of planning and 'story-boarding' the broadcast, are labeled: A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H....

THAT particular segment is 'G', or the 7th segment.

Don't quote me on this.

Thanks for the explanation of "The G Block". For a while I imagined it had something to do with the "G spot", but FOX News wouldn't do THAT, would they? ;~)

Anyway, my vote for FOX News people to get rid of would be Bridget Quinn - she just ruins the later morning show because she is too nervous, naive, and has such an unprofessional GEE WHIZ approach to everything.

I'd also like very much to see O'Reilly (I agree with those who railed at comparing the patriotic Swift Boat Vets to the Micheal Moore group!), and Greta leave FOX News.

It has something to do with the alphabet and how they break up the show.
A
B
C -- etc.

Fox News structured its programming in blocks of time.

There was the A block, the B block, etc. Smith was scheduled in the G block.
