Chafee was gacking up big time when he was a college student.

"Gacking up"? Whatever that means, I'd have to be a bigtime hypocrite to badmouth someone for having done drugs thirty (or even twenty) years ago.

I have mixed feelings about Ol' Fritz's retirement.

While I'm overjoyed that this senescent, doddering, cadaverous imbecile is finally receding from public life-and being replaced by a capable Republican congressman-I'm also, simultaneously, feeling a peculiar twinge of regret.

As much of a scumbag as Fritz Hollings was, is and will probably continue to be-until he assumes room temperature, of course-I still can't help but think that he was preferable to the alternative. Namely, a Democratic party run and operated for the likes of Barbara "Ambiguous Sexuality" Mikulski and Barbara "The Succubus" Boxer.
