Unmarried women voted but still feel disenfranchised

The hip-hop kids who were expected to be the salvation of the Democrats showed up in greater numbers than in 2000, but there weren't enough young voters to offset the huge turnout in the rest of the electorate. Disenfranchised voters in Florida who were left dangling from hanging chads in 2000 didn't rise up with the expected ``revenge vote.''

So, what ever happened to single women, that mysterious bloc of 22 million who didn't vote in the last election? Post-election polls show the gender gap still favors Democrats, though President Bush won more women to his side than he did in 2000.

According to a survey ... married women voted for the president over Sen. John Kerry by an 11-point margin. But unmarried women preferred Kerry by a whopping 25 percentage points.

Lake's poll showed that women voting for the president tended to say homeland security was their top priority, followed by moral values. Women who voted for Kerry said that the economy and health care were most important .

Chris Desser, who is based in San Francisco and co-director of the non-partisan voter participation project Women's Voices Women Vote, said her organization is still in the early stages of reaching out to single women who haven't voted in the past.

``They've felt for a long time like no one cares about what they think,'' . ``But when we're able to talk to them, one on one, they're very receptive. ''

She thinks that direct outreach is a big part of why there was a 4 percent increase in voter participation among single women in this election compared to 2000.

>>snip<<

``We need to keep communicating to these women that their participation means something,'' Desser said. `` But we still have a lot of work to do.''

Funny how the "gender gap" only applies to women. Men have been voting for Republican presidential candidates for years but you never hear;

"Why have the Democrats lost male voters?"

I say: let them keep ignoring the male gender gap - its killing them!

Its another example of the elitist pretense that something cannot be true unless they deem it to be true. The beauty is that such folly bites them in the arse every time!

C'mon, girls...

Just because your candidate didn't win, doesn't mean that you were "disenfranchised." It means you made the wrong choice.

Get used to it and quit whining.

Thats what I was thinking - why are they not trying to motiviate more mormon women or pro-life women (etc.) to vote? Why do they target only groups of women who favor democrats?

Two points here. First of all, if a bunch of gangstah thugs and their bitches and hoes were the Democrats' hope for "saving America," then America has worse problems than we thought. The idea that one of only two major political parties was looking to the criminal element to hand them an election is a serious concern that has not been dissected enough as of yet.

As for my second point, I would say that the "revenge vote" did rise up in Florida. That's why Bush won it so comfortably this time. The leftist in the media seem to think that they have a monopoly on anger over Florida 2000, but the truth is, most anger is directed at Al gore and the Democrats for trying to steal an election right in front of everyone's eyes. That is the single event that made me the anti-Democrat partisan I am today (even though I am not registered as a Republican).

I really don't think they know what has hit them.

They have had power and influence for so long that they thought it was one of the "Laws of Physics".

I hope we are finally seeing the major sea change that's needed. I think we have finally fully "outed" the MSM for what they are: An organ of the Democrat Party and the Eastern Liberal elites.

Forget about the fact that this woman worked as a consultant to what is probably the foremost advocacy group-with the possible exception of Planned Parenthood-for third trimester infanticide.

Can anyone look at the photograph accompanying that mini-bio of that fugly b*tch and tell me-with a straight face-that SHE'S NOT A DEMOCRAT?(!)

I would hope that those who feel "disenfranchised" would find the time to pick up a dictionary to find the definition of the word. "Not having an election go your way" ain't one of the definitions.

My thought exactly.

disenfranchised
adj : deprived of the rights of citizenship especially the right to vote

So these unmarried women voted, but they still feel that they have been deprived of the right to vote.

Maybe this explains why they're still unmarried?

I am a single woman who has voted Republican every time since I have been eligible to vote. The idea that all unmarried women are footloose sex kittens is a fantasy left over from the Sixties and it was not even true back then. (I was there, and unfortunately for the Sex Crowd, women ARE different from men and cannot behave like tom cats without any repercussions).

While my personal issues concern the way "family friendly" is increasingly interpreted to mean "single and childless UNfriendly", I have no wish to see this become a political issue and prefer to continue to fight for rights for the single and childless in my own workplace ... Canada gives the pregnant a year off with pay, and that means the work has to be done by the unpregnant ... taking time off to go to Susie's ballet recital or Junior's hockey game means the childless and "unfamilied" have to work overtime because we "don't have any responsibilities" ... I think these battles are better fought out of the political mainstream, along with most of the Sex Kittne Politics these broads are advocating.

The new edition of the Unabridged will include: Disenfranchised (adj.): Sinking feeling experienced by a Democrat who voted for the loser.

NYAH NYAH NYAH NYAH ... YOU MISERABLE LOSERS ... GET OUT OF MY COUNTRY!

(I feel better now; don't you?)

Am I the only one who's getting really, really, really tired of the word "disenfranchised" being thrown around? Its ridiculous overuse, and misuse, is rendering the term virtually meaningless.

Kinda, sorta.

I'm still slightly annoyed that these obnoxious lefties (FOR THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION!) once again failed to make good on their promise to flee the country.

Lousy hypocrites, if you ask me.
