'EXECUTION' MARINE WAS WOUNDED & UNDER STRESS
New York Post ^ | 11/17/04 | Niles Lathem

WASHINGTON — A U.S. Marine being investigated for allegedly killing an unarmed, wounded Iraqi was acting under extreme combat stress, comrades said yesterday.

It was also disclosed that the Marine had just returned to duty after being shot in the face the previous day.

[snip]

Marines interviewed yesterday said the shooting wasn't a scandal, but evidence of how soldiers react under extreme circumstances.

"I can see why he would do it," said Lance Cpl. Christopher Hanson. "He was probably running around being shot at for days on end in Fallujah. There should be an investigation, but they should look into the circumstances."

"I would have shot the insurgent, too. Two shots to the head," said Sgt. Nicholas Graham, 24, of Pittsburgh. "You can't trust these people. He should not be investigated. He did nothing wrong."

Military sources also noted that the bodies of rebels — and even a beheaded hostage in June — have been booby-trapped with explosives set to go off if touched by an soldier.

A Marine from the same unit as the one in question was reportedly killed the day before the shooting by a booby-trapped body — and the day of the shooting, another Marine was killed by a booby-trapped body.

[snip]

A Pentagon spokesperson said, "The forces we face are not following the standards rules of war. They are using mosques. They are using civilians as human shields and all sorts of other tactics."

Our military kills over 1,000 terrorists in a couple of days, and we're upset that our military killed 1 specific terrorist? They're doing what they should be doing....

I don't take issue with killing terrorists, I take issue with the circumstance. If we are to be the champions of democracy and freedom in Iraq, then we must uphold, in all cases and under all circumstances, the rule of law. What that boy did obviously needs to be investigated and he quite possibly needs to stand before a courts-martial and explain (if he can) why he is not guilty of manslaughter.

Any person subject to this chapter who, with an intent to kill or inflict great bodily harm, unlawfully kills a human being in the heat of sudden passion caused by adequate provocation is guilty of voluntary manslaughter and shall be punished as a court- martial may direct. --Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Since you either are a lawyer or merely playing one on the internet, aren't you forgetting something? That definition includes the word "unlawfully", right? Yet, nothing in that Article defines what is "unlawful". So if you're going to claim that his actions violated the law of war and the UCMJ, you've fallen short at this point. All you've done is post the tautology that an unlawful act is unlawful.

So how 'bout directing us primates to the specific Article of the UCMC or Law of Armed Conflict or Geneva Conventions that you believe made his actions "unlawful"? Because the devil is in the details in this one.

Damn presstitutes. I guess those sat feeds are going out with out a military censor blessing them?

I remember a few of them hay rides you mentioned. 8^). Also giving the reporters crappy binos to observe the op, wrong directions, stealing their film or batteries so they couldn't get the pics or video. They are a persistent lot no?

When we were shaking the bugs out of the initial zodiak airdrops (RAMZ) we got the usual OPSEC warnings. A week later a pic of one of our airdrops appeared in Newsweek. Looked like a long lens shot so the boss knew it wasn't one of us showing off.

It is pretty helpless. Honorable Marines are fighting and dying right now, and I'm stuck on my ass, reading some german baiting the pond. Thore, did you know german terrorists killed more than 1000 Americans following WWII? Go screw yourself, but alas, as a socialist you already have. They occupation sure screwed you people up, post WWII, seems they, metaphorically, they neutered you when they knocked the aryan superiority and violence out of you.

Civilian??? The guy was one of the terrorists WITHOUT A UNIFORM. In other words, he doesn't qualify as a regular combatant. Are you deaf, dumb, AND blind?

Also, if you think this kind of thing dosn't happen in every war by every side, you're even more of a dupe than your posts make you seem.

"Thore, did you know german terrorists killed more than 1000 Americans following WWII?"

That's new to me. Can you give me the source? If you refer to this scum of 9/11 who lived in Hamburg for a while, you should know, that those guys originally came from Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan and misused the hospitality of Germany and Germans. They were no German terrorists.

Germans of the past made exactly the fault, that they had no sensibility towards war-crimes. They thought, that "honorable" Wehrmacht and SS-troops were fighting and dying for Germany and that any war is just dirty business. Quite simular to your standpoint towards this marine who shot this civilian. The situation in WWII is for sure not comparable with that in Iraq today. America is fighting for the freedom of the Iraqi people and not for "Lebensraum" or any other nazi bullshi*. Nevertheless it wouldn't be bad to learn from the past. Even if it is the past of Germany.

BTW - Contemporary Germany is no socialist country in the sense of Karl Marx. In the moment it is social democratic (also economic crap, but much better than socialism). A lot of people like you seem to mix two economical systems with a big difference.

P.S.

It is pretty chickenhearted to insult people over the internet. I always thought that (ex)marines would behave better and use arguments instead of offences. As an (ex) Luftwaffe soldier I can tell you, that members of our millitary usually do. It is good to know that all those GIs I had to deal with during my service time had much better manners.
