After two weeks of poring over thousands of disputed votes, the vast majority of Ohio's provisional ballots have been deemed 'legitimate' by Ohio election officials.
Of 11 counties that have completed checking their ballots, 81 percent of the provisional ballots are counted as vaild, according to a survey Monday by the Associated Press.
It is too early to know whether the provisional ballots have benefited President Bush or US Senator John Kerry because the counties first must determine the validity of the disputed votes before conducting the count.
Some people said they were holding out hope for a miracle until all votes were counted. Lawyers with the Kerry campaign were in Ohio to 'check into voters concerns about the ballots,' but said that they were not trying to challenge the election.
The counties have until December 1 to complete the final count.
Unofficial Ohio vote totals showed Bush beating Kerry by 136,000 votes and Kerry has conceded that there are not enough outstanding votes to swing the state his way.

I never heard of more than 20% of provisional ballots being approved.
Well before this year we had election day not election weeks too.
Even if 100% of the provisional ballots go to Skerry, that still only comes out to 125823 votes. That's not enough to overturn the result.
81% of 155,337 = 128,823< 136,000.
Even if Kerry won all (which he wont) it's not enough.
This is all a waste of time. This election is over!!! End of story!!! GW Bush will end up with over 62,000,000 votes.

In the past, only 10% - 15% of the provisionals were invalid, so 20% is actually greater than the average disqualification rate. Not to fear, however: with the remaining 145,000 to 149,000 votes, Kerry can't hope to carry the 98% he'd need to win.
Let's say that Kerry wins 2/3 of the provisionals that survive (which is saying a lot, but whatever).
81% of 155K = around 126K. Kerry would net about 40K. Meaning Bush would be up by over 90K still...

Well she hasn't had a hit in years and I bet her residuals contract was not much.
Kerry would have to win 76% of all the provisional and undervote/overvote ballots to change the results. It's not gonna happen (unless there's been a major tabulation miscount). This assumes there will be a recount which seems pretty much a given at this point.

Look ! here are a bunch of ballot boxes which were mysteriously overlooked , and - Wow! there are 100,000 votes here - and they are all for John Kerry!

Provisional ballots tend to favor Dems very heavily. It is a certain type of voter that doesn't have any ID, and shows up to vote. And that type of voter doesn't vote Republican.
I am from Montgomery Co., Ohio -- the only absentees not included with the initial counts are late-arriving OVERSEAS-ONLY absentees which were counted if they were received by 11/12. Normal absentees must be returned by election day. I believe this is true in all of Ohio.

Not according to the Blackwell. On election night he suggested that the provisionals would favor Bush (mimic actual vote).
In 2000, 87% of provisional ballots were valid. Ohio has had provisional ballots for a long time -- they are NOT something new or unfamiliar. In the past they have followed the distribution of the rest of the vote quite closely.
that's good news. some of us were merely reacting to the bizarre reports -- promises, in fact -- of dem mischief via the provisional ballot.
and now the weenies from the greens and libertarians have apparently "paid for" a recount. this thing could drag on for weeks yet.
Yep -- well into December. Greenies and Libbies aren't really telling everyone that the vote isn't certified until Dec. 3 (or Dec. 1, can't remember which) in Ohio, THEN they can request a recount. Election boards are strictly bipartisan (3R/3D), and SOS Blackwell will not put up with BS. Completely GOP state legislature, governorship, and a conservative supreme court (ohio judges aren't allowed to campaign under any party affiliation, but they are mostly conservative older judges). The Greens are going to be disappointed if they think they'll find any friends here for shenanigans.
