NBC News reporter Kevin Sites today declined to accept Al-Jazeera's Best News Video Award for 2004, insisting that there are many reporters who deserve the recognition, and that he just "happened to be in the right place at the right time."
Mr. Sites chalked it up to "dumb luck" that he was able to record a U.S. Marine shooting a captured terrorist in the mosque which the terrorist had used as a battle station during his fight against American forces.
"I'm no hero," Mr. Sites said. "The real heroes are the executives at NBC News who had the guts to show my video over and over, even after all the heat they took for refusing to show footage of terrorists beheading innocent American civilians. I think that speaks volumes about their character and professionalism."
An Al-Jazeera spokesman said Mr. Sites and NBC have used their art to "advance the cause of freedom in a fashion reminiscent of Michael Moore."
To be fair, the reporter Sites makes a statement about the professionalism of the marines that he has been with if you look at the end of the clip I saw at MSN news. I think it is the folks at Black Rock (NBC HQ) that are trying to make this into a war crime or something. Personally, one look at the tape and it is completely understandable what happened and the appropriateness of it.
I didn't see the source of the article until I was half way through.....after I nearly stroked out.
You need to put a *medical warning* on these scrappleface.com posts!
:-)
Wow I bought it hook line and sinker..then I saw it was scrappleface.
Ha Ha
gosh... you had me until I saw "scrappleface"....
Too close to the truth, but funny nonetheless.
You tryin' to kill me? :oP
Well Al Jazeera did just hire Scott Ritter. They're probably paying him in child prostitutes. Truth is just as strange as fiction.
I knew it was humor when it was stated the award was turned down, that's unrealistic IMNSHO.
Oh man, you had me going there for a moment. This is just close enough to real life to be scary.
Best satire is the one where it is so close to the truth that you can't help but believe it.
I hear he is expected to receive the Al Queda lackey of the year award though
What do you mean? sKerry was a hero too ya know.
I also heard he's up for the Clymer award for journalistic excellence
sKerry was a shero
This Scrappleface story has got to leave a mark...on NBC!
Michael Savage is calling for Kevin Sites to be tried and convicted for treason.
Does anyone know how we can send our comments to this reporter, Sites? He had to have known that the MSM would use his tape to trash our marines. I've emailed NBC and MSNBC with my thoughts about their Liberal-biased distortions of the incident. I've also emailed and called the White House to express my support for this marine as well as all our brave marines.
