Tell Congress "NO Money For Mental Health Screening Of Kids!" (actual title)

As many of you know—Dr. Laura doesn't lose any sleep over the little disagreements people have with each other. But when it comes to things that are harmful to children—Dr. Laura doesn't play around. So Dr. Laura asks each and every one of you to step up because it’s time for us take on the President of the United States!

Did you know there is a presidential initiative called The “New Freedom Commission on Mental Health” and they have issued a report recommending forced mental health screening for every child in America, including school age children?

This is a huge red flag and it is our responsibility to protect our children. Even officials of the respected Association of American Physicians & Surgeons (AAPS) decry what they see as “a dangerous scheme that will heap even more coercive pressure on parents to medicate children with potentially dangerous side effects.” One of the most “dangerous side effects” from anti-depressants commonly prescribed to children is suicide, regarding which AAPS added, “Further, even the government’s own task force has concluded that mental health screening does little to prevent suicide.”

Included in the current version of the appropriations bill is funding for grants to implement universal mental health screening for almost 60 million children, pregnant women, and adults in school.

The House has already voted to appropriate $20 million for the scheme, and the Senate wants to bump it up to $44 million. I don’t know what our President is thinking because this sort of plan is dangerous.

Don't tell me that Mr. Bush is going to disappoint us! My, my. If you haven't done so already over immigration, get prepared, folks.

This warning excludes cheerleaders who cannot be brought to reason under any circumstances.

America needs Tom Tancredo more than ever before.

Tancredo voted against the MENTAL HEALTH SCREENING BILL and HE VOTED AGAINST PRESIDENT'S PRESCRIPTION DRUG BILL.

Also, Tancredo want's our borders shut and illegals deported.

Tom Tancredo 2008 = Last hope to Save America
Tom Tancredo 2008 = "Principled Conservative Leadership Money Can't Buy."

“New Freedom Commission on Mental Health” indeed. A major Orwellian use of the term “New Freedom." I am all for "Mental Health" also, but only under the supervision of loving parents.

The following on DR. LAURA's site:

Dr. Laura wants you to contact Congress and tell them "NO money for mental health screening of kids!" We have to stop this before it’s too late.

Support from four key Senators is needed:

Sen. Spector (R-PA) 202-224-4254
Sen. Stevens (R-AK) 202-224-3004
Sen. Harkin (D-IA) 202 224-3254
Sen. Frist (R-TN) 202-224-3344

Please call their offices and ask them to make sure the omnibus spending bill or final committee report on Labor/HHS appropriations includes the following language:
“None of the funds made available for State incentive grants for transformation should be used for any programs of mandatory or universal mental-health screening that performs mental-health screening on anyone under 18 years of age without the express, written permission of the parents or legal guardians of each individual involved.”
Also the Liberty Committee headed by U.S. Congressman Ron Paul of Texas with 22 other U.S. Representatives is spearheading action to stop this spending proposal. They need you to contact House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and tell him "NO money for mental health screening of kids!"

Well, I keep telling myself that there would be a WHOLE lot more to shovel, if Kerry had gotten the top job. No person is perfect! We just have to stay on top of the pile!

Well I think the government has the right idea here, just a little misdirected. It should be the policy that all government employees should undergo mental health screening.

Well my friend, I am an immigrant. My brother is fighting the Islamic-Human-Butchers in FALLUJAH.

And when I see my country being slowing turned into THIRD-WORLD SOCIALIST FILTH, it makes my blood boil.

No hope left but TANCREDO.

It came up before a few months ago. FReepers shouldn't miss it. No American with two working brain cells should accept this sort of government intrusion.

Hey, FLASH it has already passed the HOUSE...I don't think anyone should waste time getting ahold of Delay....get ahold of Frist and the President!

Here is a quote from "The New Standard":
http://newstandardnews.net/content/index.cfm/items/1234

"During a "lame duck" session of Congress, Senate leadership is trying to push through unfinished appropriations measures for fiscal year 2005. The Bush administration had requested about $44 million for states to implement mental health screening. The House version of the bill, which has already passed, includes $20 million in support of the New Freedom Commission’s plan. It is unclear how much the Senate will appropriate."

Well, well - so much for all the "It must be a liberal plot" comments of earlier threads on this subject.

I'm here to tell you, folks, this is going to be NCLB II - only even more expensive and probably more intrusive into the operations of schools, if that's even possible.

The first few times this story was posted here on FR, I read through all the info, including the actual plan. I didn't find anything that called for mandatory mental health screening.

Now - if it was there and omitted from all the versions of the plan I have read - then that's another story.
