I can understand possibly being upset about teaching tolerance . . . but not using the cartoon characters. If that's the best way to relate to kids, so be it!
For a long time we have used fictional characters to get across societal issues. "Aesop's Fables" and "The Wind in the Willows" are just two that immediately come to mind.
