Prayers are needed for one of our American heroes. Last week a Blackhawk was shot down by an RBG north of Baghad. The RPG went through the bottom of the aircraft through the cockpit, taking off the pilots legs, and out the top to the rotor system. The co-pilot was able to land the chopper.
The pilot is staff officer Maj Tammy Duckwrth, HHC 1st Bn 106 Avn...she has been transported to Walter Reed and is now in danger of losing an arm.
Update (11/19/04):
Tammy is in ICU and will be there for several more weeks. She is heavily sedated and periodically fights through the sedation and opens her eyes, her mother is there with her. Her color, temp and heart rate has returned to normal but is being kept on a breathing tube as she will have surgeries about every other day to repair her legs. Next week the doctors are going to begin to rebuild the bones in her arm. They are using new cutting edge equipment which has recently passed some clinical/prototypical type testing, in fact, Tammy will be the first they have used this on. She is getting a viable blood supply to her arm, but the nerve bundles have been greatly damaged.
Barring any infection, the wonderful doctors assure us she will survive. One thing that saved her life was her body armor, she had no internal injuries...amazing!

This morning, radio news (NPR Morning Edition?) reported that two Marines were killed in Fallujah because they were being careful pursuing enemy forces that had invaded the house of a civilian family. The devils took advantage of the Marines' deference.
A great story of sacrifice in order to preserve Iraqi civilian life. Would make an impact perhaps if aired in Baghdad, Beirut, Cairo.
Yet, this story is not getting air time. What gets publicity is a case of a Marine losing it and killing a devil who had been wounded firing at them from the mosque.
This is a choice the MSM consciously makes. They are responsible. Al Jazeera, I can understand why they make that choice. They have the Marine-killer as main front page story on their web site, but not until this afternoon did they put up just a side-story on the killing of CARE administrator Hasan, a woman, a non-combatant, in fact an aid worker -- when it was AlJazeera that first the tape showing her murder. Every other news outlet was reporting on it before A-J even acknowledged the story. Even then, watch their disclaimer:
"Some armed groups have used the tactic to try to force US-led troops and foreigners to leave Iraq. However many abductions have been attributed to criminal gangs taking advantage of lawlessness in the troubled country. "
What would a "criminal" enterprise benefit from capturing and executing an aid worker?
So, that's what we expect from A-J. But U.S. MSM ... ? Sadly, we have come to expect the same from them.

My prayers for Major Duckworth...May God be with her and strengthen her..I am humbly grateful for her service and her sacrifice..

I had a feeling last week that it was someone in Mike's Bn.....The 106th has 4 Co's....3 are blackhawks and one is Chinooks(Mike's)....the Chinooks are now home.
Prayers for her and the fortitude to deal with this cross..
