There was no other choice. It had to be him (unless there was ironclad proof that he was using steroids).

The REAL ballplayers finished third, fourth and fifth.

Pujos, Rolen and Edmonds. Hard-nosed players.

Why was it when McGuire was setting the home run record, all of the pundits said that the player had to be on a team that made the playoffs, but when the Giants don't make it to the playoffs, they still pick Bonds, even with the steroid cloud over his head.

If Bonds is not really deserving, then why do the other teams
never pitch to him, and only walk him?

Because Bonds' on base percentage is frightening. Unlike previous people chasing the record Bonds doesn't swing at garbage, and because of that he gets walked a LOT and STILL manages to get massive numbers of hits and homeruns. Roids or not Bonds is an incredible hitter, and he's pretty good on defense too which couldn't really be said of McGuire and definitely can't be said of Sossa.

Yeah, really! I think Bonds passed several urine tests this season. No one wants to admit the guy is the best the game has seen. He could go to the American League and be a Designated Hitter until age 70.

And that is what is wrong with baseball. Bonds is the most arrogant, selfish man on the face of this earth. Ask any player who has ever gotten to know him. Sheffield found that out. Sure, he is a tremendous player but that all flushes down the toilet in my book when he blows off fans and teammates and cops an attitude in every game he plays. His bad attitude at the plate and his critical attitude about his teammates is overwhelmingly obvious on the TV screen. If he was a better human, he would have already broken Hank's record but nobody wants a jackass like that at the top of the records. I hope he gets walked for every at bat next year.

I see MLB is still ignoring his blantant steroid use too.

Barry Bonds is going to break the all time career home runs record, too. He's only 53 away from Bad Henry, and even if he loses not just one step but two he ought to be able to hit that many shots in two years.

Bonds will be the single season home run record holder, and the career home run record holder. He's got a good shot at breaking Rickey Henderson's all time run record, too. His career average is high-- it's .300 right now. (Yes, some will claim that OBP + Slugging is the more telling stat, but Bonds is Olympian there too.)

The short of it is that Bonds will likely retire being hailed as the greatest player ever to play baseball. Steroids or no steroids, that's freakin' impressive.

Well said....from another Giants Fan and Game Day Employee. I feel honored to watch him every home game. The man may be a bit prickly, but steroids or no steroids he's awesome to watch! I don't know if I believe the steroid stories or not, but plenty of other athletes have used them and still don't have Bonds' talent or power. Can't help but think that most of it is God Given. Most of Bond's problems come from the fact that he won't kiss the press's butts, so they love sliming him. I've seen another side when he's with his kids, and don't see or hear any proof of any abusive side. Trust me, if the press had proof it would be out there!! No matter what you think about the man, he is darn impressive, and owns most of the records in his field of expertise. Can't write that all of to possible steroid use.

Just my opinion.

Defensive player? Ha! Anaheim Beat SF in the WS just by hitting it TO Bonds. He fielded horribly in that series.

This is a myth that is fueled by the media. Bonds learned through his father how the media will screw you over if you give them a chance. Barry has chosen to ignore the media rather than allow them to rake him over the coals any more than they already do.

Second, Barry Bonds is a very generous man - with both his money and time. He is involved in many charitible causes. However, again, he chooses to be private about it rather than the "in your face - look at me" attitude of so many other professional athletes.
