A 16-year-old Spaniard was sentenced to six years in a juvenile detention center on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to charges he helped steal and transport the dynamite used in the March 11 Madrid train bombings.
It was the first trial arising from the bombings which killed 191 people and wounded 1,900, the most devastating attack in modern Spanish history.
The juvenile identified only by his initials G.M. because he is a minor made only a short appearance in the armored basement courtroom in Madrids High Court building.
Judge Jose Maria Vazquez Honrubia asked the defendant if he agreed with the charges and the six-year term proposed by the prosecutor.
He replied simply: Yes.
The public was separated from the court by bullet-proof glass. The suspect, with his mother sitting next to him, was hidden from view by a screen. [...]
The TNT was later packed into 14 bombs of roughly 22 to 25 pounds each that were hidden in sports bags and left aboard four packed commuter trains.
Ten of the bombs went off at roughly the same time, three duds were destroyed by police, and one found 12 hours later in a police warehouse where it had been moved unintentionally provided virtually all the breaks in the case, starting with the mobile phone used to trigger the detonator.

wow, tough sentence, Spain is really up for prosecuting terrorists it seems under their new prime minister, Mr. Shoe Maker. Actually, he needs a boot up the @ss - hey Mr. Hot Shot Spanish Prime Minister, has our President returned your phone call yet? Idiots
Real tough sentence for a mass murderer
This scum is paying approximately one year for every 597 years he stole from his victims. That's a pretty good deal.
6 years in Juvie?? Sheesh.
Unbelievable, I don't care how old someone is. If they aid any type of terrorist act then they should be treated as if they commited the crime themselves. ZERO TOLERANCE!! He helped hundreds of lives. Execute his punk a@$!
Shouldn't this be 6 life sentences? What does it take to go to jail for life in Europe? Apparently helping to kill 191 people doesn't qualify. What kind of message does this send to the other little jihadists?
He gets six years?
This is the kind of injustice the world court wants to impose on the USA. No Death Penalty. No Matter Once.
This kid will be out in the future and will kill more. Mark my words.
No. It should be 191 life sentences. Absolutely no parole. Hard labor. All proceeds to the 1900 survivors. Maybe he will repent of his evil.
How come we can't get murders in jail this fast?
I wish they would let him serve his 6 year sentence, and announce in the press where he would be living afterwards. All of you who disagree with me, please run to the moderator, and turn me in.
This "process" is yet just another example of what happens when the masses give up the basic values
