The United Nations has called for an investigation into a series of alleged abuses in the Iraqi city of Fallujah.
Human rights official Louise Arbour said those responsible for any violations should be brought to justice.
Controversy over the Fallujah offensive was fuelled by video footage showing a US Marine shooting dead a wounded and unarmed Iraqi.
The pictures showed some marines entering the mosque on Saturday.
The marine, who has since been taken off battlefield duty, is seen standing above a figure slumped against a wall aiming his rifle at the man's body.
"He's f****** faking he's dead," the soldier is heard to shout. "He's breathing... he's f****** faking he's dead."
A shot rings out, and the words: "He is now" can be heard on the video.
US broadcaster NBC said the dead man, one of about five pictured inside the mosque, was an unarmed insurgent who had been discovered the previous day and been left to await medical attention.
The reports said the unnamed marine involved had been wounded in the face the day before the killing but had returned to duty almost immediately.
Another soldier had died moving the booby-trapped body of an insurgent.
The US military has begun an investigation into possible war crimes over the incident.
The First Marine Division said it wanted to determine whether the marine acted in self-defence, violated military law or failed to comply with the international Law of Armed Conflict.

No thanks...I'm ex Army... I hicked a few miles on my own damned boots and know what side I'm on this issue. Sites and NBC need to ask themselves what side they are on.
This better not turn into a "Breaker Morant" type scenario. If it does it will be time to storm the news agencies as well as UN HQ.
The UN needs to get it's priorities right.

What exactly would it take to evict them? Reminds me of a movie I saw once where these people rented part of their house to a psycho and couldn't make him leave.

Please exercise your "capital" to pardon the Marine in Fallujah who shot the Iraqi who he thought was faking death in the mosque in Fallujah. There are several mitigating circumstances including:
1. The pace of operations
2. The duration of operations
3. He was wounded in the face by enemy fire the previous day
4. IED's have been rigged to dead bodies
5. Surrender attempts have been used as decoys by terrorist fighters
6. The terrorists hands cannot be seen in the video
7. Our soldiers have to make split-second judgments, and they get it right 99.9% of the time
8. The terrorists murder women (Margaret Hassan) without compunction
9. Beheadings
10. The terrorists are fighting to the death. What should make these Marines think other wise of this terrorist?
11. You sent him over there to kill terrorists, that is what he is doing.

It was justified. The Marine was obviously protecting his unit.

The marines have another 2,999 or more to go to ALMOST break even. Remember, don't get mad, marines, get even!!!
