"They needed Powell in 2000, they thought, in order to get elected,"

Yeah, now I remember the Bush-Cheney-Powell ticket.

Whatever, Bias at NBC is expected....just as it's expected that the President has the people he wants and he sets the timetable.

Mitchell said that Powell's replacement, Condoleezza Rice, has received a "mandate" from President Bush to "clean house" at the State Department.

don't know about powell being asked to leave, but it is great news that the state dept will be cleaned.

Even if it were true, why say so. Let Powell leave with praise and dignity, and get on with the business of state. Powell is a loyal guy and will cause problems by negative memoir/interview only if provoked. Don't shoot ourselves in the foot.

Aha! Says Andrea Mitchell! Bush and Republicans using the black man for their own ends! Shameless BS!

NBC=Nothing But Crap.

Just when you think the MSM could NOT be any more BIASED to the LEFT, something else happens and you realize there are NO limits to their hatred for our Military, Conservatives in general and President Bush in particular.

These prima donnas serve at the pleasure of the president; they do not get to STAY as long as they want to just to satisfy their egos.

And, of course, HIS people are leaking this, so one has to wonder what he has on his mind next. After all, we know he's really good at "talking out of school." Just ask Bob Woodward.

Andrea Mitchell, the Queen of Kerry at NBC News, says "let Bush be Bush" and "Condi has a mandate to clean house" as if those were bad things.

But to all of us those are INCREDIBLY GOOD things.

LET BUSH BE BUSH !!!!

TELL CONDI to CLEAN HOUSE AT THE STATE DEPT !!!

Works for me too.

No, it's not BS. Fred Barnes said basicly the same thing. Powell told Bush six months ago that he would step down at the end of the term and Bush asked that he not mention it until after the election because the press would spin it as a defection. Powell offered to stay another six months or so and was told no thank you, that Bush wanted to hit the ground running for the second term. Bush wants to clean house in state as well as CIA. No more disloyal partisans in either dept.

Did we know that Powell was to receive a cabinet-level position prior to the 2000 election?

Sounds like too much air time to fill and not enough hard facts to fill it. This creates openings and a paycheck for vacuous gasbags like Imus...

Sounds good to me. For all their disagreements Powell always kept it low key, and I'm sure the administration is greatful for that. I hope Powell doesn't sully himself by airing disagreements on MSM now that he is retired.

"It's going to be a whole new world" at the agency, the NBC'er said.

I like that.

Powell always leaks everything to the media. I bet 90% of all 'breaking news' comes from Powell and the state department.

He already did that; he's a complete self-serving gossip; just ask Bob Woodward.

My esteem for Bush just went up yet another notch.
