Dan Savage used to write for the Seattle Stranger one of the ubiquitous urban “alternative” newspapers and, IMHO, there's none stranger than Dan Savage. He's island hopped from Seattle to Portland (aka P’city), so I'm guessing this guy's clueless about the rest of the USofA that he so easily disparages. He’s a bit of a journalistic bully. If he’d actually spend 6-12 months traveling the country with some tales to tell (with all his filters firmly in place) at least he’d have some cred. Someone already mentioned his antics in Iowa which is probably the extent of his national perspective. While in Seattle he was known a both an alternative journalist and a gay activist (I don’t swing that way, but it’s a civil rights deal) who was actually pretty good on local (Seattle) political issues. Kind of a an Andrew Sullivan without the depth.

Houston, again well over a million and again, bright red ! San Antonio is another city with a population well over 500,000......but I'm guessing large Texas cities don't count with this urban bigot.

No more. We will do what we can to keep Wal-Mart out of our cities and, if at all possible, out of our states. We will pass laws mandating a living wage for full-time work, upping the minimum wage for part-time work, and requiring large corporations to either offer health benefits or pay into state- or city-run funds to provide health care for uninsured workers.
