Final mission
The Washington Times ^ | 11/16/04 | Greg Pierce

Posted on 11/16/2004 5:49:30 AM PST by Pfesser

" 'The last mission of Vietnam War veterans ended on Nov. 3, at 2:08 p.m. Eastern Time, when John Kerry conceded the presidential race to George W. Bush,' announced James Warner, a lawyer who was a Marine pilot in Vietnam and spent five years and five months in Hanoi as a prisoner of war," John Fund writes at www.OpinionJournal.com.

"On Saturday night, Mr. Warner gave a 'debriefing' on the role that two controversial groups of veterans played in raising doubts about John Kerry's fitness to serve as commander in chief. His audience consisted of attendees at Restoration Weekend [in Boca Raton, Fla.], an annual gathering of political activists organized by David Horowitz, a former left-wing radical who fought to undermine the Vietnam War effort as an editor of Ramparts magazine, but who has now changed sides and become a leading conservative writer," Mr. Fund said.

"As the evening proceeded and one Vietnam veteran after another shared the story of how veterans felt compelled to attack Mr. Kerry for his 1971 testimony branding fellow veterans as war criminals, former CBS News correspondent Bernard Goldberg leaned back in his chair in amazement. 'I think some of them are too intense,' he told me. 'But [messing] with these guys by accusing them of atrocities was one of the biggest mistakes John Kerry ever made. Thirty years later he woke a sleeping giant.' "

Too intense? I don't think so.

Intensity in the defense of liberty and in exposing a lying, traitorous fraud is no vice.

For me, a person who will never get to see the monument to Viet Nam War veterans in DC, the defeat of Kerry is their real memorial. The 'perceived' loss* suffered by the US Military and US statesmanship in the Viet Nam conflict has precipitated the critical and historic victory for America here and now in the beginning of the millennium and against other and equally bloodthirsty enemies of freedom. This has been possible ONLY through the efforts of the Swift Vets in the recent national election.

* I say 'perceived loss' because in my view, the VC did most of the dying there and the US Military was not defeated.

Mr. Goldberg said the Vets were "too intense" against Kerry? Kerry's victory in the presidential race would have been the ultimate offense/insult to the VietNam vets. My wife's brother died during the TET offensive at the age of 19 saving a life when his convoy was attacked. For Kerry to call him a murdered/killer is sacrilegious. I too, hope the Swift Boat Vets are able to help this Marine who shot the Iraqi terrorist.

The following seems incredibly apt today, even though it's 20 years old. From "Freedom,"delivered by Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater at the 1984 Republican convention in Dallas:

"A month ago I sat in my den and watched the Democratic National Convention. Speaker after speaker promised the moon to every narrow, selfish interest group in the country. But they ignored the hopes and aspirations of the largest special interest group of all, free men and free women.

So tonight I want to speak about freedom. And let me remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. What, I may ask, was more extreme than our Revolutionary War? Our founding fathers pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor for that most honorable and noble cause, freedom.

And I remind you, too, that these men and women who rebelled against tyranny did not have the unanimous support of even their friends, their neighbors, or relatives. But they were willing to sacrifice, struggle, and die for the ideal of liberty, while others sought more comfortable lives.

And since that time other Americans have fought, bled, and died to protect those God-given privileges. But last month, those Democrat orators turned their backs on our heritage. Indeed, they would have us ashamed of our freedom and our ability to defend it.

Let me tell you, the proudest moments of my life have been those times when I wore the uniform of the United States of America. To join with the men and women in the defense of freedom was, to me, the ultimate expression of faith in our heritage . . . and let me remind you "veteran" was a word you never heard from these Democrats on the podium.

To those men and women now in uniform, and to the veterans and the ones to come, I solemnly pledge that I will do all I can to see that you are never forsaken, as you were in San Francisco."

Vets like the Swiftees were betrayed and forsaken by Kerry and his acolytes. Yes, I DO question the Dems' patriotism.

I'm glad the vets were there ONCE AGAIN to defend America against the commies and the multiculturalists and the UN and the Islamophiles.

That Marine was just doing his job; he had no way and no time to know whether or not that Iraqi was faking as so many have. It should never have made the news - just more spin from the biased news people who haven't a clue yet as to what and how horrible war is. It is against "war law" to wave a white flag and then fire; it is against "war law" to play dead then fire; it is against "war law" to bobby trap bodies alive and dead; and on and on. That Marine is a Hero! The people our Military are fighting have no "rules" in their book - they just kill anyway they can.
