Marine accused of wrongful shooting needs our help...
16 nov 04 | Atlanta

Posted on 11/16/2004 4:34:34 AM PST by Atlanta

I'm going to start with a communication of support of this young Marine, to the Commandant of the Marine Corps himself. Then, President Bush and my Senator/Congressman.They are going to hear from me and I have all friggin day to do it. I am so livid about this that words cannot describe. As a former Marine myself, this young "Leather" was doing what he was trained to do, adapting to unreasonable circumstances (enemy tricks) and he did exactly what I would have done and what has always been done with a fanatical enemy. If authorities hang this Marine out to dry, I will never stop raising hell and will become a point man for pulling these guys out of theater entirely...MSM is SICK. Other suggestions?

Cool that you coached shooting! My father did when he taught high school, and I was on the rifle team in college and taught Intermediate Riflery (donating the proceeds).

I have NEVER heard Kerry say the VC was unarmed. He quite clearly pointed out that the "kid" had a rocket launcher! Believe me, I am no Kerry supporter, but let's get the record straight, else we are just helping our opponents marginalize us.

I also believe they are not all terrorists. There is lots of evidence there are multiple groups fighting us. The generic term is "insurgents," but I also refer to them as scum. That's probably not a good thing to do, as I can imagine some are just fighting what they see as an occupation (I'd do that if they came here!)

Regardless, they are enemies, shooting at us and using dastardly tactics. We must be smart to combat that without lowering ourselves just as much.

We need to withdraw from the Geneva Convention, our enemies sure don't uphold it, and it puts our boys at disadvantage.

Amen Pie. Wanna reach far back in memory and tell me the last time one of our enemies treated our young men in accordance with the Geneva Conventions?

Who? The Iraqi's? Vietnamese? Chinese? Russians? Koreans? Germans? Japanese? They've all tortured young Americans.

I back this young Marine 100%. Shoot first and ask questions later if in ANY doubt!

Maybe he shoulda beheaded the monster. The press woulda been asbolutely silent then, or hell, even taken his side!

Godspeed and God Bless AMERICA!

Might makes right, huh?

Sorry, but I also believe that "civilized" is a good trait, too.

I re-read and still see that you are asking for video to be held pending an investigation. I also see people complaining that the MSM sometimes holds information "pending an investigation." Also, have you not seen the video as well as other information, yet decided to withhold judgment? Why can't we all do that?

It's time to get these "imbedded" reporters the hell out of there. This is war. How can we expect our guys to fight a war with some reporter looking over their shoulder. It will cause the troops to hesitate causing more deaths and injuries on our side.

Well, I like the idea of an "imbedded" reporter, BUT I really believe, since this is RAW WAR and not Nintendo, that the reporters should be former military. For instance, Ollie North does an excellent job, but he can see it from BOTH sides. He knows what war is, AND he knows exactly how to show it/explain it to the folks here at home. No soldier would have to worry about keeping an extra "eye" on Ollie.

well, if there was any muslim demonstration against these extremists over here in Holland, I'm afraid to say I must have missed it.

Here's a small one: Unity call by Dutch Muslims
"About 60 young Dutch Muslims wearing orange T-shirts reading 'We won't put up with extremism any more' cycled through Amsterdam stopping at mosques to protest against the murder.

They then joined a Dutch-Moroccan rally of several hundred in a park near the street where Van Gogh was killed."

"[...]Yesterday several hundred people of Moroccan decent marched in The Hague to protest the murder and call for a peacefull co-existence of the Netherlands' various communities. The protest was organised by several local Moroccan organisations."

Then there's this one... Many fear Dutch society has lost its famed tolerance after film-maker's murder
"At a short memorial gathering for Van Gogh in Amsterdam, attended by some 20,000 people, many Muslims showed up especially to demonstrate that they condemned the killing. Ikram, a 31-year-old mother, came to the rally with a sign saying 'Muslims against violence'."

I see there's also plans for a rally of 30,000 anti-violence Muslims in Germany. I think that these are encouraging, but there needs to be many more... with more widespread support of that sentiment.

"He should have captured him. Maybe the insurgent had some valuable information." --Gunnery Sergeant Christopher Garza

Somehow I doubt this insurgent had valuable information; the question is basic decency and law of war. Shooting a wounded prisoner just because he is breathing is not something to be proud of.

John Kerry went out of his way to do the same thing to a wounded Vietnamese teenager in the back, and got a medal for it. Will wonders never cease?

The VC had a rocket launcher and was retreating, not lying [nearly?] motionless on the floor as a wounded prisoner. What I fault Kerry for is abandoning his command to chase the VC.

Gondring,
I recognize your voice of reason. However, these guys are not the colonials in the American Revolution. None of these guys have the best interests of their country at heart.

I believe that any of these terrorists who are battling our forces in Fallujah are guilty by association. I feel some sympathy for some of the impressionable youth who may have got caught up in it and ended up making common cause with people who slowly saw the heads off of innocent people, but you run with the big dogs, you have to accept the consequences.

This is not might makes right. This is war. Our opponents in this conflict are as fanatical as the Japanese our Marines faced in the Pacific in WWII. They are not asking for nor giving quarter. We would be sickened if we had to view on camera what American boys did to Japanese boys in the Pacific. But they did what they had to do to survive. I am glad there were no reporters with movie cameras to record the horrible things.

War is dehumanizing and inhumane by its very nature. We can not make it PC by imposing "rules", when one side has no rules. Do you think, for one second, that they would not slowly saw off the head of any poor young American who fell into their bloody clutches?

I agree as A former Marine and Desert Storm veteran I would have done the same thing to. I have been following this story on talk radio stations all day. Every one of them agree unless you are in this Marines position you don't have the right to judge him. I am with you Atlanta I am going to contact every one I can here in Ohio to take care of this MARINE. Thank you for the info Semper Fi

The Marine was in a life and death situation. Considering many of these terrorists play possum, and when the Marines turn their back, they get attacked. He had no choice.
