LONDON (Reuters) - A television pool report by U.S. network NBC said on Monday that a U.S. Marine had shot dead an unarmed and wounded Iraqi prisoner in a mosque in Falluja.
The Iraqi was one of five wounded prisoners left in the mosque after Marines had fought their way in on Friday and Saturday. There was no immediate comment from the Pentagon (news - web sites) on the report.
U.S. forces launched an offensive one week ago on Falluja, and have gained overall control of the formerly rebel-held city, although scattered resistance remains.
The pool report by NBC correspondent Kevin Sites said the mosque had been used by insurgents to attack U.S. forces, who stormed it and an adjacent building, killing 10 militants and wounding the five.
Sites said the wounded had been left in the mosque for others to pick up and move to the rear for treatment. No reason was given why that had not happened.
A second group of Marines entered the mosque on Saturday after reports it had been reoccupied. Footage from the embedded television crew showed the five still in the mosque, although several appeared to be already close to death, Sites said.
He said one Marine noticed one of the prisoners was still breathing.
A Marine can be heard saying on the pool footage provided to Reuters Television: "He's fucking faking he's dead. He faking he's fucking dead."
"The Marine then raises his rifle and fires into the man's head. The pictures are too graphic for us to broadcast," Sites said. No images of the shooting were shown in the footage provided to Reuters.
The report said the Marine, who had returned to duty after being shot in the face a day earlier, had been removed from the field and was being questioned by the U.S. military.
Sites said the shot prisoner "did not appear to be armed or threatening in any way."
There was no immediate comment from the Pentagon
The comment should be F*** Y** This is war not a game of chance people die better a wounded terrorist die than one of our soldiers get even a scratch.
These media idiots need to pick up a gun and take on a few terrorists themselves if they can get close enough to take the pictures they take they should have at least the ba**$ to defend the country they report for.
They sure as h^^^ know how to report supposedly bad things about our own soldiers about war and about terrorists who hate Freedom.
This terrorist who got shot shure as h^^^ had no qualms a few momments before shooting at our men then theirs the problem of HELP ME HELP ME and then the bastards pull a gun and start shooting or sitting on an IUD and blowing up all who are in the room.
Screw em feed em led and bury em DEAD !
WORMS NEED TO EAT SAME AS BUZZARDS
"If true, that was a spectacularly foolish move on the part of the marine that will no doubt end up in a court martial. What could he have been thinking?"
Maybe so but Greg Kelly mentioned on FOX that insurgents frequently fake death then begin firing on our troops. Insurgents also booby trap their wounded or dead.
There might be a lot more to this story than we are being told so far.
CNN is reporting that this could be another Abu Ghrab (?) situation in the Arab world. Can you believe that s**t, while they kill kids and behead people?
msm had to make something counter the incredibly positive image of the "marlboro man". mho.
What do the rules say about mounting an attack from a church (mosque), school, or hospital?
What do the rules say about feigning death or surrender, in order to mount an attack (it has happened at least four times by my count)?
[What do the rules say about participating in belligerent activity while posing as a civilian? Or doing so while mingling among civilians to disguise your intentions, for that matter ]
So I guess the Big Question is that if you routinely mount attacks from a church, school, or hospital AND have feigned death or surrender to mount an attack, do the clear rules still hold?
IOW, are you worthy of being *allowed* to surrender? Surrender is a *benefit* usually (traditionally) bestowed to those behaving in a lawful manner.
Not that it matters, really... they haven't solicited my opinion - ever.
The other day I heard Sites indicate he "confronted" our troops for destroying a mosque even though terrorists used it to launch attacks. When I heard Sites say this stupid thing, I knew it was a matter of time before he tried to make a name for himself.
Maybe if the prisoner was not wounded, was non-military, had all his appendages removed, had his face disfigured beyond recognition, and was then left in a blood-stained blanket, well then we may have no moral ground and the media could complain all day. Too bad the terrorists have already stooped to this level and worse, so I have a hard time feeling sorry for them.
And by the same token, you can't kill a dead man, but you can make sure that he's dead.
Your communist media just published a story two days ago about a 'heroic' terrorist from Syria who was shot three times and still refused to surrender. Some of these terrorists, it appears, have to be shot until you know they are dead.
All great posts.
I also heard this Marine may have been shot the day before - anyone hear any info on that?
He wasn't a prisoner.
Are you serious?
That NBC is now perona non grata. And he should be VERY carefull around a dagerous enemy....
"I am so sorry sir, our troup carrier is full of injured iraqis--looks like you are a walker tonight. Oh, btw here is a candy bar.....
... and a loofah"
These terrorists are cold-blooded killers who don't play by any set of rules. Our Marines have to protect themselves at all costs. The only thing I find concerning about this story is the fact that it is a story. Innocent people were being butchered by these maniacs and the media is whining about the death of a war criminal who could have been strapped with a bomb for all that kid knew.

Security Round
Exactly.....this was in the heat of a battle.......btw...when my hubby left for Iraq I told him to shoot first ask questions later....this is a new kind of enemy....terrorist.
Iraqis fake surrender, kill Marines
If this had been another fake surrender, this is what the Left would be saying about it.
This thread is becoming nonsense. I saw the video earlier today. There was no prisoner. A Marine leaned over a fence and fired a round looking to shoot someone who had IMO already fled the area. The Marine then said that the insurgent was gone. That is the video that I saw.
You, Sir, are living in a dream world. The 'insurgents' are 'terrorists'! They gleefully chop off the heads of 'infidels'! If we are above this then we are below surviving in a war against primitive Allah zombies. You don't investigate them ... you KILL THEM!
The marine did right.
The Maine had been shot in the face the day before and went back to duty (unlike J fin skerry). does NBC expect him to wait for a second shot to the head. I don't think so. And the Marines had better leave this Marine alone.
