Mark Gerragos, Krugman's attorney has been dispatched to the D.C. area. Gerragos explains that he is unaware of any wrongdoing by his client; but reveals that Krugman has, for about 4 years now, had tremendous bouts with depression. Krugman has seeked medical treatment in Boca Raton, FL. However, everytime Krugman goes to Boca, he is reminded of the 2000 election, and suffers another setback.

Man Set Himself On Fire Outside White House UPDATED - Monday

Washington (AP) - A witness who saw a man set himself on fire outside the White House is describing a gruesome sight.

Jim Clarke of Burke was walking his dog on Pennsylvania Avenue when he heard an emergency call blaring out of a Secret Service officer's radio. That's when he saw the man on the ground, burning. Clarke says within about a minute, the Secret Service put the fire out.

D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Alan Etter says the man is 52 and suffered serious burns to his head, back, arms and face. But he was conscious when medics took him to Washington Hospital Center. Etter also says there was evidence of an ignitable liquid at the scene.

There's no word on who the man is or why he did it.

I rarely have sympathy for irrational people. Setting yourself on fire for a "protest" is not rational. I just laugh at someone that stupid.
