30% is a significant burn area, particularly if the burns are full thickness. Add to that the fact that the burns are concentrated on the neck and head and this guy has a major ordeal ahead of him. Grafting onto the face and neck is no picnic and he may need years of post-operative treatment. There's also the possibility that he scorched his airway. Toss in the risk of infection and you can bet he won't be off to jail any time soon.
Burn ward nurses, btw, are angels on earth.
