Your taxes provide for the troops. Provide for your family.

Operation Save Or Troops (OSOT) near Ft. Lewis is one you may want to look into. The above link is a news article about an effort they are in the middle of to seend cards and Christmas stockings to troops in the Middle East.

Anyone on the Washington State local message board can share more with you.

OperationAC.com

Our family has adopted a soldier through this website. We've sent him a care package and bought him new boots. My kids draw him pictures and he e-mails us regularly and sent us a picture of himself. We are getting ready to send out a Christmas care package to him.

I like the personal nature of this donation but I believe that they also take general monetary donations too.

I think this would be the most appreciated gift for the troops:

But I would still suggest you remember your wife and kids with some not necessarily expensive, but nice presents at Christmas.

There is a college funds for the children of our servicemen and women who have their lives taken in the line of duty. Sean Hannity and Ollie North are part of the effort.

I would suggest that this could be one way to help the family's of those who serve. But, remember your own children, you could just cut down a little.

we are doing something like this in our family, too. May I sugguest adopting a unit of troups from www.anysoldier.com ? That's what we're doing. We spent this weekend shopping for "necessities" for Christmas gifts for the troups. We're going to mail them to our selected troup this week.

Good luck!!!

This is just my opinion. But as a member of the military, I'd rather hear a simple "thanks for your service" than receive any kind of gift for my service. People sometimes buy my meal or something like that when I'm out in uniform. Honestly, I know they're trying to be nice and I appreciate their intentions. But my pay is adequate. I'd rather they just give me a nod and say "hello" or "thanks" or something that's short and verbal -- not monetary. That's just my opinion.

Now donating to family members -- especially the family of someone who's died in comabat -- that's a different matter. I think Sean Hannity is accepting donations for scholarships of the children of KIA's. That sounds like a wonderful cause.

I wouldn't have thought this of someone who signed up in '99, but I fear "learner" is a troll, alas.

When my brother was deployed to Saudi Arabia, I sent him packages of books and magazines. There were some regulations about content, but he told me that everyone he knew appreciated the reading material. They were very bored!

If you don't know service members personally, I don't know how you would find out who needs stuff. I wish you'd gotten more helpful or specific answers to your question!
