Bill Frist said today on Fox that he was fairly certain he would not seek reelectin in 2006. Hopefully the power of his position as Majority Leader will make him reconsider, but if not, then it begs the question;
Who does the GOP have on deck to run in 2006, most likely against alleged 'moderate' (which usually means liberal when the media uses it so praisingly on someone) Rep Ford?

I doubt Harold Ford, Jr. would carry more than three counties in the Memphis area. The rest of the state would not support him.

McCain the Manchurian Candidate? Are you aware that there's two months missing from his recorded life while he was in the hands of the North Vietnamese? Just look at his record of betraying conservative causes. I maintain that the man can't be trusted and is working as a mole for our destruction.
Frist has always said he'd serve a couple of terms and return to private life. He has no need for the money or the power that comes with politics. He had them both before his senatorial stint and he'll have them after.
Besides, I don't think he has the charisma to make it to the highest office.
Jiminy Christmas, just think, as soon as Junior tries to make a move for the Senate, ole Senior has Sir Isaac waiting in the wings to grab the House seat. It's like we gotta play whack-a-mole with these Ford 'Rat turds.

Little Ford would get some votes to be sure and the media and national Dems would masturbate over him.

By the time she runs she will b a defense hawk, speak like a moderate, have voted strong on defense and frame socialism as a Judeo/Christian doctrine.

Dorgan easily won reelection this year because the GOP was unable to recruit a top-tier challenger. They had hoped to get a former Gov, by the name of something like Schaefer, but he opted not to run. Maybe he'll change his mind and take on Conrad (who is more insufferable than Dorgan IMO)whenever he's up in 2 or 4 years.
Nelson of Nebraska wound up winning a close race in 2000 in a very Republican state as you mentioned. However, he has proven himself to be conservative on many issues and has broken with the Dems on several Senate votes. I don't know if he has done so on judicial nominees, but if he has then picking him off won't make much of a difference so long as the GOP maintains a majority. It'd be sort of like taking Zell Miller's seat; great to keep GOP majority status, but not too meaningful in breaking Dem filibusters.
Well, on the Republican side, ex-Congressman Ed Bryant is definitely in the race. Congressman Zach Wamp is also very likely to run, and Van Hillary is also a real possibility. Less likely, but still possible, is Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn.
Among the 'Rats, Congressman Harold Ford, Jr. is very likely to run, and the lamestream media will act as his personal cheerleading squad (just like Barak Obama). But if Ford deicdes it's not winnable, Governor Phil Bresden is a possible candidate. Congressmen Jim Cooper and Lincoln Davis can't be ruled out yet, either.
Blackburn is more likely to run than Van Hilleary. He really needs to run in the 6th against Bart Gordon. That seat is far too GOP now to have him sitting in it (we knocked off 2 State Senate incumbents in that district to give us a State Senate majority for the first time at the beginning of an election cycle in over 125 years).

Yeah, he'll need all the help he can get. But unlike Obama, whose radical Socialist leanings weren't known outside Chicago, Ford & the fam IS known.

I can assure you Bredesen will not run as he'd have to opt for that over running for a 2nd term (and why would you want to give up the power of a Governorship for a seat in the Senate that may only be composed of barely 40 'Rats come January 2007 ?). Cooper and Davis are also strong possibilities. I don't know how content Cooper is right now (he's my Rep.), it's a different place from when he served in the majority (1983-95). He'd probably feel even in the Senate now, he'd be able to accomplish more. If Davis departs, the seat will go back to the GOP (despite the gerrymandered lines), but Davis is almost too Conservative a candidate for the 'Rats in a primary (but in a general, he would be THE most formidable candidate they could put up, far more so than Ford or Cooper). I still think Ford is running regardless and feels he has waited long enough and has deferred to the party long enough to jump in. He can rightly claim the 'Rats owe him this one.
Guess that leaves us with Bryant and maybe Blackburn.
and Corker, of course, who's already running
If it ends up Corker-Bryant-Blackburn, Corker (from what I understand, the Lamar!ite in this race) wins, because of a split Conservative vote (and in TN, alas, we have no primary runoff). I would truly be hard-pressed to choose between Bryant and Blackburn. Bryant got screwed in '02, but I also like younger and more hard-charging individuals, for which Ms. Blackburn fits the bill (and how many actual non-RINO Conservative GOP females do we have in the Senate ?).
