Did US forces search the people who left to make sure there werent any weapons being taken out of the city for use against our forces at a later, more opportune, time? If memory serves, there were checkpoints on every exit out of the city. If they didn't search those fleeing, then we've got a major malfunction here.

I heard on numerous reports that anyone that was of
fighting age, were detained for questioning. Their
backgrounds were checked, (I'm not sure how they would do that)
and they would have to be verified as residents to be
allowed to leave. If not they were detained.
