I heard on numerous reports that anyone that was of
fighting age, were detained for questioning. Their
backgrounds were checked, (I'm not sure how they would do that)
and they would have to be verified as residents to be
allowed to leave. If not they were detained.

One of the ways they check detainees/suspects, is to do a simple gunpowder/explosive residue swipe test on the hands of the people they come across.

I don't get it. How can they do a background check or even verify residence in a country like Iraq??
