Iran has agreed with the European Union to a full suspension of uranium enrichment, ending a deadlock over its response to US charges that Tehran is secretly developing nuclear weapons, officials in Tehran and diplomats in Vienna said Sunday.
In Tehran, nuclear negotiator Hassan Rowhani said Iran had agreed to suspend "nearly all" of its uranium enrichment-related activities as part of a deal with Britain, France and Germany, in a step that eases the threat of possible UN sanctions over its controversial nuclear programme.
A close aide to Rowhani, Hossein Moussavian, said Iran had bowed to demands that it suspend not only enrichment itself, but also activities related to it -- converting raw uranium into the feed gas for enrichment at a uranium conversion facility in Isfahan and making centrifuges used for enrichment.
Moussavian said the suspension would remain in force while Iran and the European Union negotiated a long-term cooperation accord. He said these negotiations would start on December 15.
"The suspension is valid for the duration of the negotiations," he told reporters. "This is the beginning of the normalisation of Iran's dossier at the IAEA," the UN watchdog International Atomic Energy Agency.

Att: MODS ---- Yes, there are two other threads w/ this same title but neither of those two mention the "nearly all" quote.
Reagan ended the Soviet Union's threat and later Libya's threat. Sadaam is no longer a threat and now Iran wants to compromise. And just what have the Democrats accomplished?
DIDN'T THE WORLD LEARN THAT DIDN'T WORK WITH NORTH KOREA??
Hey let's do it again!!!
later Libya's threat.
I think you should give Bush credit for this one. However, I do think we must impose strict sanctions on Iran. When you look at how we dealt with Libya, I think we have to follow the same pattern. Sanctions and harball. Thats the best way to deal with this threat while our military is tied up in Iraq
"DIDN'T THE WORLD LEARN THAT DIDN'T WORK WITH NORTH KOREA??"
Didn't work in Cuba either. The Soviets remove a few missiles, Castro gets to keep his Communist outpost 90 miles off the coast of Florida. Gee, what a deal! I say commence bombing Iran's nuclear facilities immediately. No deals...only obliteration.
My first question when I heard the headline today was, does that mean they think they have enough enriched uranium? I guess the nearly all loophole means the answer is not quite.
A few Tomahawk cruise missle strikes on their reactors should ensure their promise to not enrich uranium.
Well, I sort of hate to comment because Im one of the few (only one?) that is semi-incensed that people would be excited about a suspension.
Its sort of like dealing with a kid that takes $60 out of his moms wallet. Its fine that he has come clean. But now you have to consider step two thats where he makes it right followed (or simultaneously with) step three, which is the punishment phase.
Of course, step four is where he is very closely supervised concerning a *whole bunch* of things he previously could do, until he demonstrates hes worthy of trust. That may never happen.
America tends to overlook several steps. Europe is even worse, I suspect.
Whew!!! Looks like another sigh of relief for the European supporters and protecters of the turbaned mafioso-fascists who have hijacked Iran. They have saved their beloved "Con$tructive Dialogue$" with the murdering thieves for a little longer, and they can carry on their pillage and plundering of the besieged, doomed, land of the Persians. What a grotesque sham of a hullabaloo over a piece of paper, as the turbaned thieves use the Persians' capital to buy time to fortify their strangle-hold on the doomed country, and their European collaborators giddyly sell it to them.
Wow, NPR made no metnion of "nearly all" when they reported this today. I wonder why?
No worries. Mullahs have never kept a promise, treaty or pacts with infidels. Thats reality If they are not closely watched, they will have their ICBM before the world, not just England realizes the nuke program never stopped and mullahs becomes a super power due to diplomacy snafus and pussyfooting with reality. February looks like an opportune time to eradicate this awful possibility.
