GAZA (Reuters) - Palestinian militants burst into a Gaza City mourning tent set up for Yasser Arafat on Sunday and fired shots in protest at the presence of his moderate successor Mahmoud Abbas, but he was unhurt, witnesses said. They said a Palestinian security man was fatally wounded in an exchange of fire between militants and bodyguards shielding Abbas, also known as Abu Mazen. He was on a visit to accept condolences for the Palestinian president, who died on Thursday.
The chaos erupted after masked gunmen from Arafat's faction-ridden Fatah movement shouting "No to Abu Mazen," a critic of violence, walked by him as he stood outside the mourning tent and began firing shots into the air.
Members of Arafat's president guard hustled Abbas into the tent and threw him to the ground for his safety as shooting intensified. At the end of the clash one of the bodyguards lay dead from a head wound in the tent.
Abbas, 69, was uninjured, security officials said.
The clash was indicative of the factional lawlessness plaguing Gaza and threatening the interim collective leadership of veteran moderates formed to usher Palestinians toward elections on Jan. 9 for a successor to Arafat.

I'm glad Abbas survived. The best thing that could happen is a civil war of Palestinians in which the moderates emerge victorious.
And people still think that the Palestinians can handle their own state...
Savages.
No state for savages.
We're going to need a lot of popcorn for this.
Thanks for posting this.
I couldnt find a printed report
Little know historic fact for you. The descendants of the modern day Palestinians came from Albania and other Turkish controlled Balkans areas about 400 years ago.
It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?...
It's a neighborly day in this beauty wood,
A neighborly day for a beauty.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?...
I've always wanted to have a neighbor just like you.
I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.
So, let's make the most of this beautiful day.
Since we're together we might as well say:
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Won't you be my neighbor?
Won't you please,
Won't you please?
Please won't you be my neighbor?
What exactly is a Palestinian....where is Palestine? Has there ever been a Palestine?
Gee, stories like this really make me think that peace will be possible now. Well, maybe after they kill each other off.
It's really starting to look like they are going to blow it, again.
How about that dame, Hanan Ashwari (sp?), maybe she should run. I'm quite sure she's a dreadful person, but she seems to have a brain in her head. She might be able to be a new broom.
OK folks, tell me why I'm wrong : )

Hal Lindsey book: The Everlasting Hatred, the Roots of Jihad gives an excellent historical background of Islam and current world events.
She dated Peter Jennings...
i always said we bombed the wrong side in that war
i guess it's not like the U.S. wher looks matter(somewhat)ok ok kerry bad example
Yup. Pass the popcorn.
Does it count if one bunch of killers kills another bunch of killers? I thought maybe offsides, but not a big penalty.
"Does it count if one bunch of killers kills another bunch of killers? I thought maybe offsides, but not a big penalty" more like "there is no flag on the play..2nd down"
As long as there's no delay of game they can commit as many personal fouls as they want.
