Within the past month, four former deputy directors of operations have tried to offer CIA Director Porter J. Goss advice about changing the clandestine service without setting off a rebellion, but Goss has declined to speak to any of them, said former CIA officials aware of the communications.
The four senior officials represent nearly two decades of experience leading the Directorate of Operations under both Republican and Democratic presidents. The officials were dismayed by the reaction and were concerned that Goss has isolated himself from the agency's senior staff, said former clandestine service officers aware of the offers.

Right on! The CIA, like the State Department, needs major house cleaning Maybe Porter Goss is the one to do it-let him be.
This is a Pincus article--he sees dire consequences in anything the Bush admin does. Maybe Goss is simply taking out the garbage.
He's just taking out the trash. Running scumbag liberals from positions requiring a security clearance is never popular. If they're so upset about being out of a job, give them jobs cleaning toilets and mopping floors in non-secure areas.
Exactly. Anything the administration tries to do within the CIA, there are those who will try to undermine it.
It was certainly easier being a CIA agent during Clinton's tenure. They must have hoped for a Kerry presidency.
Under Clinton, and presumably a Kerry presidency (shudder), there would be no accountability. Neither of those guys was going to war no matter what, so agents didn't have to offer rock solid evidence of anything. And of course, rock solid evidence in the intelligence world is nearly impossible unless they are lucky enough to catch someone on videotape.
Period after cleaning.
I hope he boots "Annonymous" out on his sorry ass.
The good people are probably very happy that the deadwood
is going.
Those who sincerely want to play ball will be kept on. Those who are destructive infighters and leakers will be retired. Bout time.
Sounds allright to me.
This opening sentence says a lot.
WHY have these "four former deputy directors of operations" come forward to "offer Goss advice" apparently before Goss even asked for their advice? I am suspicious of their motives right from the start and I guess Goss is, too.
Good point!
This very story itself must have been leaked by one or all of these "four former deputy directors of operations"! I'm glad Goss told them to take a hike. It definitely sounds like Goss has some understanding of where the bodies are buried, and who the bad guys are, and who the good guys are.
Well stated, 100% correct, and that's all that needs to be said.
The fact is that the Dimocrats and the old media are out of the loop, have been rendered impotent by "we the people", and are reduced to being the "major moaning party and their abettors" for as far as anyone can see.
This wailing and gnashing of teeth will go on, only to be replaced by occasional side shows of "importance" like the Scott Peterson trial, or funerals for hero's like Yessiryourafart.

PURGE THEM ALL
(CNN) -- A book written by a top CIA counterterrorism official alleges that the Bush administration has bungled the war on terror, and because of poor decisions the United States faces a choice in Iraq and Afghanistan "between war and endless war."
Written by a high-level counterterrorism expert and published under the name "Anonymous," the book "Imperial Hubris: Why the West is Losing the War on Terror" is unique in that it was written by an official still working for the CIA.
And with the book slated to be released next week, the author has already appeared -- in shadow -- on a Sunday political talk show to defend his work.
On ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopolous," the author accused some senior officials in the U.S. intelligence community of "a great deal of moral or bureaucratic cowardice" in dealing with the war on terror.

A career CIA officer claims in a new book that America is losing the war on terror, in part because of the invasion of Iraq, which, he says, distracted the United States from the war against terrorism and further fueled al-Qaidas struggle against the United States. The author, who writes as Anonymous, is a 22-year veteran of the CIA and still works for the intelligence agency, which allowed him to publish the book after reviewing it for classified information.

In an interview with NBCs Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Andrea Mitchell, he calls the U.S. war in Iraq a dream come true for Osama bin Laden, saying, Bin Laden saw the invasion of Iraq as a Christmas gift he never thought hed get. By invading a country thats regarded as the second holiest place in Islam, he asserts, the Bush administration inadvertently validated bin Ladens assertions that the United States intends a holy war against Muslims.
In his book, titled "Imperial Hubris," he calls the Iraq invasion "an avaricious, premeditated, unprovoked war against a foe who posed no immediate threat, arguing against the concept of pre-emptive war put forward by President Bush as justification for the Iraq war.
The book also argues that the U.S. focus on bin Laden as a terrorist is the wrong way to fight him and the wrong way to think of the foe. The real enemy, he asserts, is the radical form of Islam that bin Laden and his followers espouse. And he calls for escalating the level of violence in the war against al-Qaida.

I agree..Good points.. Clinton appointees are not what caused this culture or these problems.
Why didn't these "good people" get antagonized by some of their colleagues who were busy calling President Bush a liar with their "leaks" and books and articles, etc? Undermining not only President Bush but our national security?
If these "good people" get antagonized by this cleanup, they aren't "good" in my book.
If people at the CIA, former loudmouths, and the WaPo aren't pissed, then not nearly enough is being done to clean out the seditious scum.
