Secession is a non-starter, IMHO. That has been tried once before, with disasterous effects STILL felt in this Nation. If it were to be tried again, this Nation would fall.
The only State that has a legal right to seceede, IIRC is Texas, due to a treaty signed before Texas' entry into the USA. Any other state that tried it would be "occupied" by the imperial Federal Government.
IF Texas were to sucessfuly seceede, it would accelerate the "guerilla war" I have alrady predicted, as other states would try to follow their lead and/or join with Texas in a new Union.
Republic of Texas = State of Texas + Oklahoma + New Mexico + Colorado?
What would the Federal Government do if Texas Seceded? Seeing that there's far more Texans serving in the Armed Forces than any other state, It would be tough.
I don't think the Federal Government has to honor Texas' secession clause either.
As a Texan, its too bad I'm poor. I would seriously consider starting the Texas Independence Party.
