We generally think what we do is right and in a certain sense we set the rules. Nonetheless, the world doesn't see it that way, and I think Kofi is talking to that world. I think he almost has to be where he is, but it's a tough time for him among Americans."

"the world doesn't see it that way" Translated it means, France, Muslims,China

I will continue to preach Eagle's Doctrine....

1. Throw the U.N. out of the USA....and sell the building.

2. The League of Nations died...the UN should be dead too.

3. Never support the UN again..ever..under any circumstance.

You want a solution to the UN...there it is.

And think about this....

1. Hillary wants to rule the USA as its President (barf)

2. Billy Boy wants to rule the U.N.

Does this not paint a really scary picture for the future of this country...WHEN YOU REALLY THINK ABOUT IT???

Annan and generally the trash heap of the UN doing nothing at all is a very good thing because they are proving without a doubt that they are irrelevant and they can move their headquarters to the whatever third country of their choosing and keep on screwing each other.

Yep. And, don't you love the Times caption: "Quarrel" ?

I used to own a trout fishing marina. never took The Times, because the dead rainbows would come back to life -- in protest -- if I used that shameful rag to wrap the customer's cleaned fish in.

Holy crap! I was trying to parse out a quote to respond to but it's ALL so UFB it's hard to know where to start.

Here's my favorite I guess:

"Without being boastful," he said, "I think that except for these activities of ours, we would not have moved as far as we have, whether it was the establishment of an interim Iraqi government or the preparation for the elections. I think our role has been essential, and not one that is played by an organization that is irrelevant."

If that isn't a sniveling, weasle-in-on-US-successes, punk b1tch of a comment, I don't know what is.

The UN sent 100 monitors to the US election!!! But can't send 50 to Iraq?! The UN is a corrupt, outlaw body and needs to be eliminated. At worst, the US must withdraw immediately and eject this global criminal enterprise from our country.

We're accused of going it alone anyway, we should live up to it. I'm sure plenty of nations will join us in a new UN anyway.

I have to concur with you...that too was my favorite quote. I just about feel out of my chair and broke what Koffi Annan is trying to cover. LOL!

C'mon. At what point do we finally say, "Screw the UN"?

I also like the part about how he can't comment on the Oil for Food scandal, or share information with the US investigations.

Tell me if that doesn't sound like Michael Corlione talking to the press in Godfather II (or was it III?)...

Officials in Mr. Annan's office say they fear a return to the mood of the 1980's when the United States, the organization's single biggest donor, reacted to Congressional displeasure with the United Nations by withholding payments.

sounds like agreat idea to me. maybe we can get Japan to join and cut their finances by 80% then tell them to go to france.
the UN has got to be the most corrupt political body on the planet. think about it...that would be like letting all those crazy hollywood activists run the world!

We should get out of the UN, and the UN out of America.

In a perfect world, I would agree. However, our enemies would love us to leave the UN because then we would loose our veto. I could see the EU gaining the use of our veto. You then would heve the 6 prement members of the UN passing world wide resoultions against the US. We must stay in the UN.

I think the UN should prove its revelance by straightening out the Sudan and possibly the Ivory Coast. When that's done, come back and we'll talk about the future.

In a perfect world, I would agree. However, our enemies would love us to leave the UN because then we would loose our veto. I could see the EU gaining the use of our veto. You then would have the 6 permanent members of the UN passing world wide resolutions against the US and her allies. Not a good scenario. The United States must stay in the UN.
