The guys at Miramar said during the filming of TOP GUN that Tom Cruise was actually a very nice guy--they like him a lot. Val Kilmer--no.
Pretty funny because I was on Miramar base in 1987 and the pilots there said they wanted to throw Cruise off the deck of the aircraft carrier. From what I recall Cruise said that he could fly the F-14's with no problem. The XO apparently wanted to launch him sans the aircraft.
