CNN analysts earlier said that the original foreman, the doctor, was insisting the jury go through his 19 notebooks and weigh all the evidence piece by piece. He was interested in dragging this out for weeks. Everyone else had made up their minds (unknown which way at the time they were saying this on CNN), revolted, threw him out, and, once he was gone, took their vote. Everyone agreed and there was no reason to prolong it.

The original foreman was also a JD, which made it likely that he would want to look at every bit of evidence.

Lawyers seem to forget that the law is also about common sense and not just technical points.
