After a busy weekend protesting the Re-Election of President Bush, some Boulder High School students, and their teacher, Mr. Jim Vacca, got a visit from the Secret Service today.
The protest, which managed to attract Congressman Mark Udall (D), who is expected to run for governor in 2006, was only a warmup to the action this week.
Earlier this week, according to several dozen witnesses and the Boulder Daily Camera (you may have to register, no charge), a student band, with Mr. Vacca playing along, played out a song that called for the death of President Bush. The band, the Taliband, played at a student talent show earlier this week.
Earlier today, the Mike Rosen show on 850 KOA was flooded with calls from students who claimed that the band "advocates killing George W. Bush." The band is scheduled to perform tomorrow night at the high school, however, the band is no longer going by "The Taliband" but is now known as "The Coalition of the Willing." There will be a multimedia show during the song showing pictures of President Bush.
Apparently the band sang "George Bush, I hope you die soon" to the tune of their punk version of Bob Dylan's "Masters of War." Jim Vacca, facing a tital wave of public outrage, has dropped out of the band. It remains to be seen how the Secret Service will treat this matter.
...and the girl in the middle of the front row in that picture is now 54 years old.
Oh, you HAD to mention that, didn't you?
I think I'll go get a drink and watch myself age in the mirror.
Sigh!

Ps. I'm new at this linking stuff. Hope it works.
Mike the SS will deal with these clowns. These pathetic idiots probably cried when the band,"Wham" broke up. They will be watched for long long time.
Didn't the band "Firefall" also to to BHS? I can remember when BHS was mostly known for ropers and dopers. And Fairview was...well, Fairview.
Excellent!
"Academia Nuts" Bump / Ping
Nice little home-grown Rat Anarchists.
Isn't that girl in the middle the MP from "Stripes" who got the "Aunt Jemima Treatment" from Bill Murray?
I think Firefall's members all migrated to Boulder from other parts of the U.S. I don't believe it was a home-grown group.
LMAO! Darn those kids and thier rock n roll!
They interviewed the weak-kneed principal on the news last night and, of course, he denied that there was ever going to be such a performance. People who work with this man say that he just doesn't have the guts to stand up to the loud-mouth libs who are running his school for him.
They also had a short interview with one of the students who stated that the teachers who were planning to play back-up for the group shouldn't have gotten involved. She said something to the effect that they are supposed to keep their political values out of teaching and not influence "impressionable minds". LOL! It sounds like not all of the students at BHS are brainwashed.
BTTT
