If it's too bad to be true, it may not be voter fraud
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | Thursday, November 11, 2004 | Wyatt Buchanan

Those who believe the Nov. 2 election was fraught with fraud or conspiracy that kept Democrat John Kerry from winning the White House should talk to Lana Morgan, supervisor of elections in Florida's Lafayette County.

That county, along with about two dozen others in the state, has been the subject of intense speculation on the Internet because while 83 percent of residents are registered Democrats, Republican President Bush won 74 percent of the vote.

But that's the way it always has been, Morgan said.

"We're in the Bible Belt. There's still enough people that have got enough Christian in them that they vote their morals over the pocketbook and praise God, because I'm one of them," she said.

Accusations of widespread organized voting fraud elsewhere in the country similarly wilt under scrutiny. Academics and independent groups watching closely for shenanigans say that, so far, no evidence has emerged that suggests a "stolen election..."

Keith Olbermann ought to be thought of like a tabloid hack... He sold out any journalistic integrity for a few lefty freak rating points...

At MSDNC however, that is acceptable... The irony is they commplain that Fox is biased...

That's a great article. And you know what? The hard core liberals will never, never, never believe it. They just won't except it. Why? Because they lack the ability to understand that kind of conviction about (anything, especially) religion. What's more, they want you to believe that kind of faith doesn't (or shouldn't) exist either. Well done, Florida, well done. Keep 'em guessing down there for us!

OK, now I'm really confused. First the NYT,now the San Francisco Chronicle debunking the DU myths of a stolen election. My God in heaven, who will we know who to believe!

Seems like the Old Media is reluctant to pick up on these accusations. Kinda makes you wonder if they already know what they will find

(a) Bush actually DID win

(b) Proof of widespread voter fraud

If they thought for a moment it was (b), and Republicans could in any way be blamed, they'd even pre-empt Arafat's demise.

There are people on DU and in Hollywood and elsewhere that cannot conceive of a universe in which more people legitimately voted for Bush than for Kerry. We will hear them bleating "we wuz robbed" every time...

So far tonight I've read the NYT and now the SFChron, and both came out against the DUmmies and their conspiracy theories.

They'll do what they'll do, throw good money away recounting, but to no avail.

But if anybody thinks that once they recount Ohio, for instance, and Bush still wins, that will be the end of their delusion, that won't happen.

They'll continue to scream stolen election for the next 4 years no matter how much evidence is put forth to show the opposite.

But isn't that the nature of delusion...even with faced with facts you refuse to believe them.

"First the NYT,now the San Francisco Chronicle debunking the DU myths of a stolen election."

They are desperate to let this sleeping dog lie. They know that if the crazies actually succeed in causing an investigation to be opened, it will reveal what the 'Rats pulled in THEIR attempts once again to try to steal an election from Dubya.

That's an insult to tabloid hacks. He's not even good enough to be one of those.

Well. duh. I'm a registered Dem because I like to vote in local primary elections. We haven't reached the point where there are Republicans running in most local primaries. But I never vote for a dem in state and national elections.

A lot of the Southern states also have a much higher democrat registration than republican--does this also mean we stole those states?

They know full well there was wide spread voter fraud. They also know it wasn't the republicans doing it. They want this issue to go away so the libs won't be exposed.

These guys keep straining for an excuse for why Kerry lost. There was vote fraud. Rove did it. The SwiftVets and their "dirty lies" did it. The "gays" did it. Red Staters are ignorant and prejudiced yahoos who can't look beyond their rigid fundamentalist prejudices. Etc., etc., etc.

But they just don't get it. The majority of the American voters (both measured dirtectly and via voting for their electors) just didn't want Kerry, and thought that Bush would do a better job. That's all, folks. It's just democracy in action.

In many areas of the south, in the not too distant past, the only way to get any political participation was to be a Democrat. There was no such animal as a Republican party. Many of the people in that demographic are conservative but never changed their voter registration, adhereing to the old behavior of publicly appearing to be a Dem while secretly voting Pubby. So the registration data in many cities and counties in the southern states, may not be reflective of the political philosophy of the indigenous population.

Everyone in my family is registered as a Democrat and has been since the 50's and 60's and not one of us has voted for a Democrat since 1992. I changed my registration and voted straight (R) for the first time ever in 2002.

How meny registered Dems told their Dem acquaintances that they were voting for Kerry when, in fact, in the privacy of the voting booth they pulled the lever for Bush as a matter of conscience?
